Title: Jackie and Blake need us! UPDATE Post by LadyElaine1 on Jan 10th, 2007, 3:43pm Their Dog Rocky who is their baby, is very sick, He had a big growth in his belly. They have to either operate or let him go. Its killing them, they don't want him to suffer. They are not sure what to do. I wasn't much help, when they called. I am praying for old Rocky, he has been with them 10 years. They want him with them as long as the good Lord will let him stay. Jackie and Blake don't ask a lot from us they are always giving. I am asking for them, send vibes and prayers to their baby Rocky. Keep them all three in your prayers. |

Title: Re: Jackie and Blake need us! Post by cootie on Jan 10th, 2007, 3:53pm If it's affordable and the dog is healthy enuff to face surgery and 'vet reccommends it' I'd try to go that route and have it removed.....but if the dog is feelin sick from it or it causeing sumthing else to go on it will just probly get sicker and sicker and not be able to go thru surgery soon. I have seen alot of pets have lumps and tumors removed and do great for a long time !!! Sumtimes the flareups make the pets future look grim but 'it mite buy the dog sum painfree time' ! Really depends on what the vet thinks Pam Good luck with it cuz I sure the heck know HOW IT FEELS to go thru that PAIN with pets !!!!!! Boy do I ever !!!!!!! |

Title: Re: Jackie and Blake need us! Post by Cathi04 on Jan 10th, 2007, 5:07pm I hate news like this!! I hate being in this position myself, as well, soo, for starters, you have my hugs and hopes and prayers, Jackie & Blake. Second of all, I've been know to ask the Dr....Be it a human issue or a canine/feline issue........"if it were YOUR ..........(mom, pet, etc.).what would you do?" I've gotten some very caring concerned responses, and I think I have always done what the vet reccommended. Rocky is obviously loved greatly. Hawkeye, our shitz-tsu/lhasa mutt, had liver damage at age 11. Gil was out of town, when I knew I had to take Hawkeye for help. Long story short, the Vet told me we were looking at short-term, and I would know what to do very soon. That night, it was clear to me he was in a lot of pain. We went back to the vet first thing the next morning, after a sleepless night. I was with him when the Vet gave him his shot. He kissed me over and over again, as if to ease my pain, and thank me for putting him out of his pain. I still miss that dog, 14 yrs later, but I know we made the right decision for him. In your case, maybe this growth is a benign tumor, and removal will give him more time to love you! Miracles happen!! When we fall in love, be it with a human or a pet, we become vulnerable. That's not wrong at all, it's simply our capacity to love. Rocky is, and always will be loved. Still, I wish Rocky and Hawkeye could live forever........ Sending hugs, and awaiting news, Cathi |

Title: Re: Jackie and Blake need us! Post by TonyG1 on Jan 10th, 2007, 5:32pm I'm so sorry, this is a hard position to be in. I lost a friend of almost 13 years a few years back -- it wasn't easy but the ppl here were a huge support (most appreciated ) !! The condition she had wasn't curable and rather than let her suffer, had to let her go ... Anyhow, the moral to the story is it is a terrible decision to have to make ... Prayers and sympathy ... !!! |

Title: Re: Jackie and Blake need us! Post by artonio7 on Jan 11th, 2007, 3:00am That's a horrible place to be. But as long as there's life there's hope. Jackie and Blake my heart goes out to you. I'm sure that Rocky knows that you only want what's best for him and trusts that you'll do the right thing. As you love him very much you have never failed him before so whatever your decision will be love based. I've had Two great friends (Star & Shadow, both shepherds) one of which I had to have put down and the other just passed unexpectedly in the night. I still mourn their loss some 11 years later. When I was confronting the difficult decision of putting Star to sleep a dear friend of mine sent me the following poem: PUT ME TO REST Time to let me go my friend, Because my life no-one can mend, Its better to let me go this way, Than watch me suffer night and day. I'm happy to go, my time has come, My quality of life is no longer fun, Ive been so ill, so its not a bad thing, To let me go forever resting. Stay with me till I drift away, Fast asleep forever I pray, To relieve me from suffering and pain, What more can I ask from my best friend. Don't be sad, I'll be free from pain, Never to be ill ever again, I know you'll miss me being there, But all the memories you have to share. Thankyou for being my best friend, And all my needs that you did tend, Try not to be sad, try not to cry, Now's the time to say GOODBYE. anonymous The three of you will be in my thoughts and prayers. |

Title: Re: Jackie and Blake need us! Post by kcopelin on Jan 11th, 2007, 9:58am Dear Jackie and Blake and Rocky, Cootie was right on, and so was Cathi-ask the vet what he would do if it was his canine friend. And don't give up on hope. Problem with our four-legged family members-their life span is shorter than ours. Peace and blessings, kathy |

Title: Re: Jackie and Blake need us! UPDATE Post by Jackie on Jan 12th, 2007, 7:55am Thank you all so much for this thread.....I swear this board and the people here know how to "do magic"...I've seen it before here.....and once again now... :D I just spoke with Rocky's doctor....he's been in ICU since yesterday. She said, "He is doing great".....even went outside to potty. Now, we're hoping for a clean biopsy. If his blood work looks good today we may get to bring him home... :) We saw the 5lb. turmor they removed. OMG it was huge, angry and ugly looking. These tumors are hard to detect until they grow large and start causing problems. They told me the only sure was to know one is there would be to have x-rays. She told me some people have yearly x-rays done along with their exams....especially after the dog is 7 yrs. Had I know this I sure would have been having the boy lit up yearly. Just a bit of info.....I know this board is full of animal lovers... Mast....bless your heart....you were spot on!!! Again....thank you all so much... Love to you all.. Jacks 8) |
