All of us, eventually. Unless CH makes us immortal--but I don't think it does. Too bad. We ought to get something out of it, don't you think? Rest in Peace, Jerry Ford. Best wishes, George |

Title: Re: Gerald Ford 1913-2006 Post by Kevin_M on Dec 27th, 2006, 4:09am I'll always like the guy, he was the first President to send me, a big nobody in about '76, a $75.00 check for a tax rebate he distributed to the whole nation. Coolest thing I ever got from the government up to that time and altered my attitude about thinking differently about the men in charge. Good guy! But I wouldn't watch him golf without a hardhat. ;) |

Title: Re: Gerald Ford 1913-2006 Post by vig on Dec 27th, 2006, 8:47am seemed like a nice CHap and gave us Betty and her clinic to shape up all the stars.... plus he was the only president in my lifetime that wasn't elected. (or up for election.) [he was appointed vice president after Spiro Agnew resigned over tax issues and became pres after Nixon did his tricks.] |

Title: Re: Gerald Ford 1913-2006 Post by E-Double on Dec 27th, 2006, 8:50am Ironic how he has the "rep" of being a clutz. In actuality he was an all american scholar athlete. A 2 way center on 2 national championship Michigan footbal teams. He chose Yale Law School over going into the NFL. |

Title: Re: Gerald Ford 1913-2006 Post by Kevin_M on Dec 27th, 2006, 10:11am Well known here in MI he was very adept and accomplished. The fact though he was un-elected and beaned a few people while golfing made steady comedic opportunities for Johnny Carson too. :) |

He pardoned Tricky Dick, but I forgive him. His reasons for doing so were well-intended--even if it did, in part, cost him the next election. I also don't think Ford had much of a chance at election anyway--a lot of people didn't care to have an appointed president in office, no matter what his party affiliation was. That's my recollection, anyway. Best, George |

I think so the country could move on. Nixon was out of office - while the idea of justice and making an example out of him has a logic, so did moving on. |

Title: Re: Gerald Ford 1913-2006 Post by Sandy_C on Dec 27th, 2006, 1:00pm I liked President Ford. He was well spoken, seemed to me, at least, that he really tried, and wanted to make things better for all of us after the Nixon fiasco, and, because he was human, not some self-appointed god or emperor. He was a clutz, and I loved him for it. Appointed or elected didn't matter to me. And, yes, he did give us Betty and her clinic. She was one of the first of the "well known" (not necessarily celebrity) who went public with her addictions. Because of that, and her start of the Betty Ford Clinic, thousands of people, besides just the stars have benefitted from it. There are now many more clinics just like it around the world that are helping people - so, to Betty, my sincere condolences on the loss of a fine man, and thank you for what you have done as well. Sandy |

Because Nixon had been around Washington since the 1940s, had some very influential friends, and was a cold warrior second to no one. His advice was very valuable and as they say, it would have ripped apart a lot of the country. Nixon was very bright but he was his own worst enemy. In the long run, Gerry was right. I loved Gerry Ford. He got my vote. Charlie |
