My parents and I are having my birthday dinner and cake/gifts/cards later, but I do have to go back to my apt tonight because I work the next 3 days and then all weekend, too! (The plus side is that by working this coming Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, I'll have worked my 3 shifts for that week and won't have to work again until December 26th!) Sorry I haven't been around much lately... Been stressful times lately with my own health stuff, class (which, for the first time since starting my grad program, did NOT go well at all - I think largely due to stress and personal illness. I got a D on the final..... :-X ), work, and some family things. One of my mom's 2 best friends got diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer (has spread to the brain) the day before Thanksgiving, so that has been tough, also. Now I'm even more on my "quit smoking" bandwagon then before!! I guess the seriousness and reality of lung cancer never really hits you until it hits someone close to you. But no worries that I am going to be a nag, because I totally won't be - I haven't said a word to my father about quitting smoking since we got this news - only my mom is doing that because we don't want him to get angry and then defensive. If someone is going to quit smoking, they have to do it by their own choice. I just really wish everybody I love and care about (and those who I don't even know, too!) would quit because it is really hard to watch somebody you love go through this! Good news is that at my best friend's wedding on November 18th, I caught the boquet! hehe Ever since then, I've been chatting quite a bit with a former high school buddy of mine who now lives in Chicago. The distance is a bit far, but it's been a lot of fun getting to know each other so much better. He'll be home on Christmas for that week, so I hope to get to spend time with him then! Ya just never know...stranger things have happened, eh? I'm also now in a community choir back at home (parents' home) that is directed by my former high school choir director, who was actually the reason I started off majoring in music education at Penn State. That's fun because not only does it give me a chance to be involved in music, but I also get to see some of my high school friends who I never really talk to anymore! :) Not much more of interest to report. I'm still getting hit about 4-6 times a day, which had increased back in August/September or so. I'm not on any prevents as we had moved to pain management for my daily migraine back in February, and I rely on oxygen/frova/amerge/redbull/ice/had 2 nerve blocks last Tuesday at the neuro for the clusters. Still on methotrexate injections for the autoimmune crap, and I'm hoping that now that I'm on a higher dose and have switched to injections instead of pills, maybe it'll help my headaches/fatigue as an added bonus like it did before! The main thing that has been getting me the past few months has been GI problems with reflux. I'm maxed out on 3 different meds plus have zofran for nausea. I've lost about 15 pounds over the past few months - I'm down to only 105, and that's the lowest I've been in a really long time. If I had wanted to get there by dieting, that would be one thing, but it's entirely another to get there by near-daily vomiting and not being able to eat much! If I'm still losing weight and having problems in January when I go back to see the GI doc, then I'm gonna have to have some funky tests that require wires in the nose, etc. Ew...! In spite of the GI crapola, I'm definitely going to enjoy my swordfish dinner tonight and then my angel food birthday cake! :) I've missed chatting with everybody, and I'm going to try to read up on the posts more often! It probably hasn't been all that long since I was posting, but it feels like forever, and I feel really out of touch with everybody. Thanks again for the birthday wishes!
