Title: Starting up the deep fryer..... Post by jimmers on Nov 23rd, 2006, 11:25am At 2pm to cook the bird. 3.5 minutes per pound plus 5 minutes. 12 pound bird=46 minutes! Sweet! The only drawback is 46 minutes isn't a lot of time to drink beer while waiting for the bird to get done! I'm going back to the 5 hours in the oven method, this is bullshit! I think Barb must have invented the Turkey deep fry method. Probably trying to save my liver! ;;D Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Jimmers |

Title: Re: Starting up the deep fryer..... Post by Jonny on Nov 23rd, 2006, 5:40pm WASHINGTON — The makers of deep-fat fryers have a message for ambitious chefs this Thanksgiving: Turkeys don't burn houses down, people do. As the trend toward fried — instead of roasted — turkey has grown, so has the concern over the possible dangers of deep-fat fryers. Allstate Insurance said 15 homes burned to the ground around the country last Thanksgiving as a result of the improper use of turkey fryers. The product-testing company Underwriters Laboratory Inc. (search) refuses to certify as safe any turkey fryer model currently on the market. In 1999, the last year figures were available, the National Fire Protection Association (search) reported that 500 fires involving a deep-fat fryer took place around the nation, resulting in over $6.8 million dollars in damage. |

I could see all the hoopla if you were trying to cook the turkey with a flame thrower, but it's a friggin' deep fryer! and jimmers, you don't wait until you start cooking the bird to have a beer! You start drinking beer when you start setting up! one who only eats fried turkey |
