Title: What I miss from pass Thanksgiving!
Post by LadyElaine1 on Nov 22nd, 2006, 10:41am
Today I am cooking and cleaning getting ready for he big Turkey Day.

All morning I been kind of down wondering what was wrong.
It dawned on me. I miss the Thanksgiving where all the kids would be helping me in the Kitchen. Before they started working and got married. The fun we use to have, we would laugh till we cried, we would stay up half the night cooking and cleaning. Thats what I miss so much. JD is just not into cooking yet LOL.
So to pick myself up I put on a old Thanksgiving tape we made of us cooking its about four hours long, man is it funny. Of course I miss my Dad but he on the tape to so it brings him home to me. Well guess I better get back to work I figure if they can't be with me cooking ya'll can :-)
I think I will just leave my computer on today.

Sorry you are lonely in there Lady E.  I know our family does a lot of laughing and carrying on when we get together too, and it makes the work go so much easier and more pleasently.  Doesn't mean they don't still love ya though, and we do too.  Hope your Thanksgiving is a good one that you will remember as fondly.

Yeah holidays are tough for me too.  My mom passed just after my son's first b-day (I was pregnant with my daughter) and that tape of sammie's bday party (with my mom present) is just so incredible and bittersweet.  Plus all us adults and kids and neices and nephews were so much younger then (5+yrs ago)  It's so funny to watch the tape....but also makes missing her and thepast so much stronger...

Thanksgiving makes me sappy and realize I have sooo much to be thankful for, more than I can ever put into words regardless of the lost loved ones and hard times.

Big hugs Elaine, I totally understand how you are feeling.

And of course HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!!!

or in our case Happy Turducken day (yep going to my step sis in laws for a turkey with a chicken inside with a duck inside...)

I know how you feel Elaine. I miss the old ones too; especially my aunts and uncles.

Aunt Helen did the complicated parts of dinner. Mom the pies. My uncle Marvin brought along cheap Schenley Reserve whiskey for the eggnog; Henry helped me play with all my toys; Carl was the funniest, while Aunt Genevieve was just plain nuts but raised Britainy Spaniels and gave me one. After dinner, Dad and his friend Max, got on the shortwave....it was a big deal in the fifties.... Naturally, after everyone sobered up from glogg and eggnog, we had to sit through several slide shows.

Tons of leftovers too. It was great.

Anyway, I hope you all have as good a time this year. You deserve it.

;;D :-/ :'( Yeah I'm with ya on this one too Elaine!
This is the first Thanksgiving that all the kids are away, My Eldest is still on his extended tour of Iraq and his family is in Hawaii instead of Fairbanks, Alaska.  His wife's best friend just had a baby and she went to help!
My middle son and his wife are in Wisconsin still and my baby girl(21) is spending the day at her Hubby's parents in Fort Myers.
If we didn't have the Grandkids that we are raising we would be out of the loop all together!  Sure didn't plan this far ahead!
I miss having all the faces at the huge table!  but I'm thinking Christmas will be even harder to deal with!
Nice to have a big family at the touch of a key board!
"Happy Thanksgiving everyone!"   Pappy and Big Mom

It's partly what I miss from the past, but also what I will miss.

My daughter and I have made Thanksgiving dinner together every year since she was about six years old.  She's sixteen this year, and it has suddenly occurred to me that there are only a couple more years of this tradition until she moves into her own independent life, wherever it will take her.

Needless to say, it will be difficult and challenging to see the changes that brings, but it's in the nature of parents and children.  I wouldn't change it for the world.

Best wishes,

George

I hope that you'll have one wonderful Thanksgiving anyway. It's wonderful that you have a tape like that. :)

Best wishes,
Sanna
