Title: Today is Nov 22nd... Remember where you were
Post by BarbaraD on Nov 22nd, 2006, 6:26am
When JKF was assinated in Dallas?

Most of us "old-people" remember it like it was yesterday. The day Camelot ended....Walter Cronkite loosing his composure reporting the news and the shock that went around the world.

;;DOld but not senile!  Yes I remember the sick feeling, everyone was crying and it felt like the Cuban's had actually launched one of those missles laying only 90 miles from us in Miami!
It still amazes me that except for when Dr King was killed, I have not experienced such a deep sense of loss for a public figure!

I was taking a "sick" day off work and watching "Divorce Court" on TV when the news came on -- I sat for hours just watching the news and crying. It was like losing a member of my family.

I went to the grocery store later and people were crying - I think everyone was in shock and didn't know what to do.

And then John John saluting the flag at the funeral was just too much.

That and 911 were about the worst things I can remember happening to our country.

On the news they're replaying the whole thing..... It's still one of the saddest things I've ever watched.

I wasn't born yet, but this day holds other significance to me. My father passed on this day in 1988, two days before thanksgiving. The paramedics worked on him on our living room floor for 45 minutes, and the image is burned forever in my brain.

This holiday has never been the same since.  :(

Peace,
Carl D

I was ten years old.  I heard about it at school.  I remember the teacher crying when he told us about it.  We were speechless.

Best,

George

I was 17 yrs old, been out on a training exercise, assualt courses etc., with 25 other lads the same age, we were all in a shower block, one of the Sgt came in and told us what had happened. The noise level went from Bedlam to hush and stayed that way for hours, the shock was unbelievable.  I often wonder how thing would have work out if it had not happened??
                                                     Cheers Roy :)

I was in the third grade, and remember the principal coming around to the class to tell us the news.

The thing I remember the most and the thing that helped set my attitude toward our political leadership from either side of the aisle was when my Dad came home from work crying.(Only the second time I ever saw him cry)  Dad hated Kennedy because of the abandonment of the Cuban people.  I asked him why he was crying if he hated him, and he said, "He was still my president."

I was 11. We had a few t.v.'s in the school and they were all tuned to the news. They closed down the school and I remember walking home with my younger brother and sisters, trying to really comprehend what had happened. I don't really know if I really understood what the impact would be. Unfortunatlly as someone already said, I seems like yesterday.   Dick

I was in two places at once, the necessary biological material needed to make me who I am today, had not yet been combined.   ;;D

We sat in third grade class after lunch waiting for our teacher to return from the teacher's lunchroom, where they had a small black and white, she was never late except today.  I could see her reflection outside the door standing a few moments, she came in to dismiss us but lost composure and covered her mouth and left a few moments longer.  Coming back in she got the words out emotionlessly deadpanned what happened in a short sentence with everything she had and dismissed us, just looking over our heads as we filed out, avoiding eye contact.  I didn't look back at her after we left.   Mom was crying at home.

I was about to turn three, so I don't remember any of it.

Now MLK and Bobby, I remember those. I remember my mom saying that the world was "going to hell in a handbasket."

No matter your political persuasion or perspective, she was right.

I was at work and still remember how deafening the silence was and how many tears were shed.

Stayed home the day of the funeral and watching Jackie and her children was heartbreaking.  John John's salute pretty much undid anyone watching.

The Kennedy years were somehow magical.

Yes, I remember it very well.  I was in 8th grade P.O.D. class and prior to hearing the news we had been talking about presidential assasinations.  Talk about being freaked out I was

PFDAN to all and Happy Thanksgiving.
