Title: Airline in trouble - AGAIN! Post by BarbaraD on Nov 21st, 2006, 9:27am Some guys on a plane decided to (in mass) stand up and PRAY. some passengers got upset and the airline put the guys off the plane. Now they're in trouble about "discrimination" and "type casting". Give me a break. I'm still a little afraid of flying (although I've got about a million miles racked up - I still get a little apprehensive on take off) and always say a little prayer before the plane takes off BUT I do it silently and in my seat. AND while I respect other people's religion -- there are limits! If they feel the need to pray - find some place inconspicious and take it there - like the rest of us! This PC stuff is really getting out of hand people. Guess next I'm going to get arrested for calling my kid Boo Boo and my grandkid Pissant! Hugs BD |

Sounds like a deliberate setup job to me. Anybody acting weird on a plane these days is going to be kicked off. Everybody knows this. It's not a surprise. So the question is, is this just a setup in order to file a lawsuit and get a zillion bucks, or is it some sort of political/religious "protest"? If it's the latter, then get off the plane, already--you made your point, whatever it is, and the rest of us just want to get from point A to point B and get out of this stinkin' flying tube. If it's the lawsuit setup thing, then go play in traffic. The "pedestrian hit by a car" scam is well-established, and very lucrative. No need to reinvent the litigation wheel with some new stunt. Title: Re: Airline in trouble - AGAIN! Post by nani on Nov 21st, 2006, 9:52am Wasn't a set-up. Apparently, they stood for their evening prayers. Passengers were suspicious of them before that. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15824096/ |

Title: Re: Airline in trouble - AGAIN! Post by chewy on Nov 21st, 2006, 10:09am Unless they are brain dead they must have known that 3their actions would instill fear in the passengers. The National Director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council has said they could have prayed before getting on the plane. Arrest them and charge them. |

Stood up? I thought they had to kneel facing Mecca for evening (and all other) prayers. Who woulda thunk...Middle Eastern folks being disruptive on a plane to the point of making other passengers nervous would get them booted off. -P. |

Title: Re: Airline in trouble - AGAIN! Post by nani on Nov 21st, 2006, 10:19am Speaking of setups... you know the rebel/rabblerouser in me wants to start covering my head, and walk around in crowded places facing East and mumbling to myself. If I only had the time...*sigh* |

Title: Re: Airline in trouble - AGAIN! Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Nov 21st, 2006, 10:30am I hadn't heard this story. Seems odd. I think next time I fly, I'll light up a smoke, and when the flight attendant asks me to put it out, I'll say no. Then, when i get kicked off the plane, I will sue for discrimination against smokers. For my trip after that, I think I will listen to some music and pace up and down the aisle. When the flight attendant asks me to sit down, I'll say no. Then, when I get kicked off the plane, I will sue for discrimination against people with fat asses that cant sit in that tiny chair for more than 30 minutes. Also, I think I'll sue for discrimination against people that like to listen to music. If a flight attendant asks you to do something and you refuse, isn't that a federal crime? Why are these people not in jail? :-/ |

Sick minds. You're right they do kneel and they all have prayer mats and how many times have you ever seen anyone kneeling on a flight to pray, or stand or anything else in the past? Political correctness my arse. Its high time some bloody sense kicked in. I have so had enough of these sort of stories. |

Title: Re: Airline in trouble - AGAIN! Post by Charlie on Nov 21st, 2006, 11:17am It wouldn't surprise me if it was setup. If not, it's still nuts. As far as I'm concerned, pray away but don't get in my way. People didn't make this kind of spectacle of themselves in the past, no need to be idiots now. It's not PC in this case, it's common sense today. Stupid shouldn't be rewarded. If there is a lawsuit, I can see a counter-suit for scaring the crap out of people. It could have resulted in physical violence as well. It's a scary time to be in a cabin. Charlie |

Title: Re: Airline in trouble - AGAIN! Post by Kevin_M on Nov 21st, 2006, 11:19am I don't know but it could be an attempt at a Rosa Parks-like act for rights. But it seems simply very insensitive to the other passengers on the flight. |

Title: Re: Airline in trouble - AGAIN! Post by seasonalboomer on Nov 21st, 2006, 11:26am “They took us off the plane, humiliated us in a very disrespectful way,” said Omar Shahin, of Phoenix. “I never felt bad in my life like that,” he said. “I never. Six imams. Six leaders in this country. Six scholars in handcuffs. It’s terrible.” ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sounds as though Omar has lived a rather sheltered life if he never felt "bad in my life like that". I'm an innocent looking little white guy and I think I've had experiences where I've felt worse than what these guys experienced. Sounds like he needs his perspective "adjusted". scott |

Title: Re: Airline in trouble - AGAIN! Post by BarbaraD on Nov 21st, 2006, 1:12pm Maybe we should ALL (those of us "normal people) should file a class action suit against someone for "infringing on OUR rights" (to smoke on planes - to put our kids in car seats or not - to allow our kids to sue us, or have CPS called on us if we "correct" our children with the business end of a flyswatter - and about a thousand other "infringments"). I'm just fed up with everyone trying to tell me what to do -- I AM capable of THINKING for myself thank you very much! Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Airline in trouble - AGAIN! Post by Mattrf on Nov 21st, 2006, 1:43pm Call me a chicken but if I saw a bunch of Muslims praying before getting on my flight I would probably take a later flight since that is what the suicide bombers do before the kill themselves. I do think they should be able to pray but given the times I would think they would do it before getting to the airport even if it was not the right time of day. They had to know what would happen and did it anyway so they deserve what they got. I don’t think the feelings of five people should be set ahead of a plane full of people that probably felt very uneasy after seeing these guys praying before boarding there flight. Title: Re: Airline in trouble - AGAIN! Post by Charlie on Nov 22nd, 2006, 4:20pm You know; you're supposed to use your head. I'm sure that I would point out a bunch people praying before my flight. It's self preservation. I don't like it much but it's the way things are going to be. Sure it's discrimination but thanks to 9/11, it will be there forever. It ain't the sixties with all kinds of ethereal types handing out tracts on the concourse....shades of Robert Stack. Charlie |
