ok... I dont usually start threads like this but since you all ripped Mel Gibson apart... How do you feel about what Michael Richards did at that comedy club the other night... HE WASN'T EVEN DRUNK... but I'll bet you feel sorrier for the funny guy...I am so curious to see what you all think... I personally think he is in need of serious psychotherapy... at least Mel was drunk...

He's funny on Seinfeld, but looked like an azz in public the other night. But, Why would someone go to a show just to heckle someone anyway ? They were being azzes too !

Personally, if he would have made a direct presonal attack on me (especially in front of everyone) ... I would've had to stomp up there and kick his azz !!

BTW...he was probably on coke and will be in the Betty Ford Rehab Clinic soon ! lol

The thing is that this was closer to the surface than certainly most people. Some level of racism exists in most everyone but this was obviously something different. A shame really. He's been okay in the few dramatic parts that he played too.

He's not going to ilicit the kind of sympathy that Hollywood hunks depend on. I don't think he can rely much on fallout from the next idiotic entertainer display. This was unreal.

I think the only people who will be mad at him will be black people.  Just like the only people honestly mad at Mel Gibson were jewish, on that last thread the non-jewish people just wanted the jewish folks on this board to like them so they jumped on the outrage bandwagon.  

He sure does seem like a bigger jerk than Mel though, his racism was just plain mean as oppossed to paranoid.

It's what i think and it's what I thought at the time.  It's important to note that I said angry, I did not say indignant, or dissappointed or a whole gambit of emotions that would be associated with disagreement.  

To throw fuel on the fire, I also thought that the american jewish population where especially TO'd at Mr. Gibson because of what was happening in Isreal at the time and they were feeling especially vulnerable.  That and the above are just an opinion.  Maybe lots of folks will think less of me for them, but you know what, today I don't care.  However, believe me when I say no disrespect is intended.  Have a good thanksgiving.

I just watched this little videa with a girlfriend of mine here at work. On a side note she is black.  Cant say that I was shocked having grow up around it, both sides of it.  But this was an extreeme.  

This goes beyond racism and is truely hatred.  And for him to try and play it off in the "act" as saying that "these words still shock"  He knew he f'ed up.  And there was no saving it.  

I watched the video of Sinbads take on it.  I somehow doubt that Kramer will have the nerves to follow Sinbads advice and follow Mel's lead and speak at an all black church to appologise.

 I also just watched this video on the web and I would call this hate based racism pure and simple. The thing that bothers me is that if you have kids (or are one) yhat listen to Rap, you will hear those same words used over and over. If you have ever been to a Chris Rock show you will hear those words used while you are LYAO!

The context in Richards case are what makes me think he is a lowlife racist jerk, but the question remains , why is it ok for one group to use such terms for entertainment value and yet if used even without Mr. Richards invective attitude be "fighting words" if used by a white person?

And no I am not a racist, just asking the question.

Because he is not Black.  Only a Black person can use those words as it is the black race that "has stuggled" to stop the use of that doragatory name calling.  Also Richards brought up history at the beginning with the "40 years ago" comment, and that in and of itself was beyond what is allowable.

They entire thing makes me sick.  It is simply the fact that she was "under pressure" and could not deal with being heckled, which is something that all stand up's have to deal with.

Hhmmm.....How come it's politically correct for a black guy to harass and attack a guy that is trying to do a job he was hired to do. How would you react if you were attacked at your job, by a stranger, and told you were doing a bad job?
Maybe the black guy should have just kept his mouth shut. If he didn't like the show he could have walked out.

The Michael Richards thing was the most viewed vid on youtube yesterdy.

I watched it in total shock. I even saw his 'apology' that was so fake I was in awe that he actually attempted it.


The Laugh Factory said he will NOT be back to their stage ever again, and I am hoping that other venues cancel his miserable shows as well.

Worse than shameful. It's sick!!!

I agree with all of the comments actually that came from my co-workers comments. But I figured it was better to try and get an answer from someones perspective other them my own German one.  

I dont understand why any race would use a word towards each other that has such a derogatory meaning.  It does not make any sense to me that they would freely use that word towards each other then get mad if someone of a different race uses it.  

Listening to her try to explain it was just crazy.  That "black people have gone thru so much to get where they are, they have to stick to gether and not allow others to push them down again."  

I believe that Michael Richards is a racist arsehole but that his tyraid is going to be used to push blacks down again, I dont get.  :-/

To me, this proves there is a double standard in this country. I've been to comedy clubs where the word "cracker" and "whitey" were thrown around, and listen to a rap song any rap song and you'll hear it. Give me a break, the hecklers just should've kept there friggin mouths shut.

Back that ass up! I really am tired of the political correctness that has taken over EVERYTHING. I think he was way off by going of on that tirad, but if he made a joke about it, I think it would have been taken totally different. You're absolutely correct sir. The fact remains that this tirade was not part of a comedy routine and was not done in the course of trying to use racial epithets as part of a routine does set it apart however.

But (and a big BUT) the fact that Gloria Allred is now on the TV with the hecklers as part of trying to file a lawsuit against Michael Richards for the pain, degradation, etc... that they had to endure is possibly the most outrageous element of the whole debacle at this point. The one fellow actually said, "I just believe that free speech should have limits....."

The fact that Michael Richards would hurl such abuse at such a constitutional scholar is a shame.... I guess.....

haven't seen the video , but if the word is gonna start that much controversy, then I think the african american comics need to stop using it as well. It's funny when they use it but let a white, asian or mexican man use it and all hell breaks loose.

Well Duh!  If I go out to eat with coworkers and say "I've been eating too much and I am getting fat" then there's no problem. If I turn to a coworker and call them fat, it's plain rude, no?  Same with racial terms - if Seinfeld wants to tell Jewish jokes, no one is going to say anything. When Goy's tell Jewish jokes, they are walking on thin ice.
