Title: Some sad news
Post by brewcrew on Nov 19th, 2006, 8:47am
After a long and excruciating battle with pulmonary fibrosis and congestive heart disease, Pat's dad died yesterday afternoon in our home.

Some of you may know that Jim came to live with us 3 months ago as he could no longer take care of the normal, everyday things we all take for granted. For the last several weeks, he was under home-based hospice care, and for the last week we had a nurse here 24/7.

Jim was my father-in-law, but more importantly, I was honored to call him my friend. He was the loving father of two, and was preceded in death by the love of his life, Helen, in 1985. He was a decorated WWII veteran and a true hero.

I already miss you, buddy.

Bill after reading what you said about him around Veterans day and talking to you about him, I am crying.

The fact that they both died at home with you and your wife surrounded by those that loved them is a wonderful thing though.

Thank you all from our family (I'm brew's wife, Pat).

You have all been a great inspiration to us in your support for each other and us.  It's great to have cyber-friends like you.

Our family is slowly moving towards healing and I actually feel worse for brew than myself.  My dad moved in 3 months ago today and that was the first pain free day for Brew in many, many months.  He came to think of my dad as a good luck charm. . . . and now that charm is gone.

I hope his magic lingers for a long time between my husband and the beast . . . .a looooooooooong time.

Dear brew, Pat and family,

So sorry for your loss.

It's all there:

Vet: Thank you to Jim and all the vets for MY freedom. Was thinking of him and the others and appreciated your touching post.

Hospice: Been there (twice). Care, compassion, professionalism. Those people are awesome.

Friend: You never know where you will find them. The labels don't matter. A father in law AND a friend, that's blessed.

Regards

Jon

Gods love and comfort to you in this time of grief.  I too know the pain of losing your father and friend.  I miss my Dad so much and my Mom as well.  We have just celebrated a year that they both left us...
You will be sad but remember they are together.  That is what sustains me.  You will never forget you will just get used to missing them.  The void is always there. Just filled with happy memories...
God bless you "Jim" and gently guide you home.  May the angels wrap their arms around Pat and Bill... Thank you for offering your warm home to him in his last days... you will never be sorry for this time with your loving father... and our Father in Heaven will never forget it either.
With all the love I can muster tonight

(sorry bout the name mix up... wouldnt want God to send blessings to the wrong people... love ya)
Ree

Wow. I can't thank each of you enough for all of your tremendous words of comfort and support. The only thing that hurts in all of this is that we miss having him here. Everything else brings either a smile, a feeling of relief, or tears of joy.

That hole inside is quickly being filled by fond memories and the kind wishes of others, yourselves included (oh, and the awesome pumpkin bars the neighbor lady brought over yesterday). I don't know what we'd do without you guys. Thank you again.

Bill
