Title: Have a laugh at my expense....
Post by taraann on Nov 16th, 2006, 5:31am
Went to the grocery store with the kids yesterday.  When I got back out to the van, got the kids all buckled, and put the groceries in I found my van wouldn't start.  I popped the hood, looked for loose connections or any indication of why it wouldn't start and found nothing obviously wrong.  Well we've gone through 2 altinaters (sp?) in the past couple months so I figured it had something to do with the charging system.

It was mild out when we left the house so the kids didn't have jackets so I put a jacket and sweatshirt I had in the van on each kid cause it was of course cooling off by then, I was left in a tshirt.  Sam was working a couple hours away and the inlaws were at work so I put all my perishable groceries in one bag.  And proceeded to walk with a heavy bag of groceries and 2 kids about a mile to home freezing my ass off.

Well Sam gets home and goes over to the store to try and fix the van..............and the reason it wouldn't start was cause I had left the van in gear!  OMG how lame am I??!! [smiley=laugh.gif]

I can relate to that.  ;;D WHY would you want to check something as "minor" as it being in gear? Hope Sam carried in the groceries for you (I hate that part).

Glad it was something as simple as that and not a big repair bill.

Hugs BD

Ya know what else....earlier in the day I was talking to MIL about needing to start walking more.

Aguess this on goes to "be careful with what you say out loud"- section. ;;D

Taraann,  Don't feel bad, I have done that before too, had to walk home from the sitters with both boys because I left the car in drive when I shut it off.

Never mind Tara, at least you've never had to clean chocolate cake mix off the ceiling 'cos you answered the mixer instead of the phone.. or stink of white spirits for a week cos you answered a damn paint brush instead of a phone.. it could have been worse! At least walking is good for you!  ;;D

LMAO I have done that a time or two myself.
Something like that happen at my dads funeral. We have a extended cab F150 truck. To have a key made for the truck cost us $50 so we have cheap keys that open the doors and only one key that will start the truck. Well Buddy gets in and trys to start the truck and it won't start. Everyone is looking under the hood and trying to figure out the problem. I looked in my pocket book to get something and saw my keys, I knew right then Buddy had the wrong key.
At least everyone got a laugh at a time it was needed. I swear my Dad was doing it LOL

LOL.....tooooo funny.

I had to go across the street to help my neighbor once....same deal....but he's 87..... ;)

OK...don't tell....it happened to Blake too.  He just could not get that new Ford truck into reverse.  I had to help him out...got behind the wheel, put my foot on the brake and BINGO...reverse.

Something similar happened to me...left work one day, put the car on reverse, the emergency break was on, realized I had forgotten a very important client folder, walked out of the car.  When I got back the door was locked.  Luckily I had cracked the window about 2 inches. So my boss and two warehouse guys had to spend 20 minutes trying to maneuver a branch down the small opening in the window to try and hit the door lock.  I was mortified  :-[, but I never did it again.   :P

Too bad you had to walk that far though!

LOL ! That was funny!

But then I had done the same thing. When we first got the Landcruiser, I drove it until the fuel was all gone and got stuck about 15kms away from home. Called hubby who had to leave work and drive to the service station to buy a can of petrol to put in for me.

He arrived at the scene, took one look, pushed the button to swap from the sub tank to the main tank ( which was still full ) and voila !!

You are right, I never lived that one down either  :P

One can only pray that Helen's phone doesn't ring when she's ironing.

Watching a woman driver and when her car wouldn't start she pulled out the ignition key and looked at it.  When it didn't start the second time she pulled the key out again, put on her glasses, and inspected it thoroughly. Same after the next attempt.

Was really difficult not laughing as I organised some fuel for her.

You wish! Ask my ex about the brown stains on the ceiling until I repainted it..I really AM that thick!
Linda I have answered the iron before too but luckily I felt the heat before I smelled hair!  I've also tried to change channel on the tv via the phone and answer the remote.. what's the point trying to hide my ineptitude you lot know I'm thick LOL The paint brush was the worst though as I had to use turps or white spirits - I had both on the go - to get the paint off and I still had bits stuck in my ear when I went to pick Jasper up from school.  ::)

Oh the things we've done... ;;D

I haven't had car trouble, because I don't have a car. What comes to kitchen, I haven't made mistakes, because for once my cookings get my full attention.

But don't worry, Helen. My mum, who usually doesn't make any mistakes, still admits her biggest: she spilled a whole bunch of whipped cream on the kitchen carpet when she tried to check if it was whipped enough by turning the bowl upside down. It wasn't even close! ;;D I know that it happened because I was standing next to her at the time and we were making a cake for my birthday party. Luckily it was a Saturday, so dad was sent to pick some more cream and we cleaned up. ;;D

And for once dad, the joker, didn't say a thing.

Sanna ;)

Well, dont feel bad - I did that before

And I cant even tell you how many times i've locked my keys in my car.............(sometimes running, sometimes, not...)
I even went so far as to call the locksmith (we're on a first name basis , Leonard and I)
when i thought i locked my keys in my car, and after I paid him and he got my car unlocked, I get in - and realize that ALL THREE other doors were UNLOCKED.

I do it so damned often that I just assumed that they were all locked.......... LMAO! [smiley=laugh.gif]

Leonard asks me when I call now "did you check the OTHER doors?".......  He says I'm his "favoritest" customer.   He doesn't say I'm his smartest. :-/

LMAO woob familiar story.  I once started my grandfathers car to warm it up and somehow hit the electric locks when i got out.  Well unfortunately it had a full tank of gas (cause personally I would have rather had it run out of gas while waiting for sam to arrive to break into it with a coat hanger) but no it ran on and on and on.  Sam finally arrived and got it open but I STILL get picked on about that one.

Also I'm notorious for running a car outta gas.  I always think "hey I can make it a little further before I need gas"  Then chug chug chuggin outta gas shortly after (knock on wood this hasn't happened in the past two vehicle's I've owned.....but every other YUP)
