ok - so what do you have to get/have to deep fry a turkey????    do you have to have that special turkey deep fryer, or can you do it with a big pot on the stove or what??

i heard fried turkey is yummy - also heard it's a fire hazard.......

so tell me.........

if it were up to me - we'd just have pizza.. LOL
Happy Joes - canadian bacon and saurkraut
and of course  --- taco.

I've been assigned the rolls and green bean casserole for 20 people. Anyone got a good green bean casserole recipe? I'll do one of those, and the other just steamed fresh green beans with almond slivers.

The cow is very cool.   ;;D
As far as recipes go...I'm a survival cook (three kids-you cook what they'll eat-yes ketsup is a vegie, but no ice cream is not).
My mother-in-law (God bless her little heart,) has given me about 1,257 recipes since I married her son.  I believe she was concerned.  She had every reason to be.  I seem to have misplaced them.
In a moment of insanity I agreed to "do" Thanksgiving at my house this year-again.  We are having enchiladas, tacos and nachos.   ::)

Happy Thanksgiving!
PFDAN y'all

I think that the cow is cute. :)

What is the traditional Thanksgiving menu? Turkey and what? We don't have that holiday back here, but I'm always interested. :)

Sanna,
Traditionally, Thanksgiving is centered around a turkey (well, and football, unless I can break the TV after the Parade). Side dishes are fairly regional. Our Thanksgiving menue is like this:

Roast Turkey with Trad Herb Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
Sweet Potato Casserole
Cranberry Relish
Cranberry Jelly
Emerald Salad
Peas
Crudite Platters
Lemon Meringue Pie
Pumpkin Cheessecake with REAL whipped cream

Most people do Pumpkin pie and a pecan pie.
Thomas, I would  LOVE that green bean thing..we need variety.
This is the same menu, served the same way for over 80 yrs in our family. I, for one, am ready for lobster on the beach....JUSt ONCE, perhaps..........but, traditions change as the families change....

Woobie... I love your cow.  Lol...If it was a giddy little cow, with a toothy smile, it would be even better ;;D

Well woman, I don't ever cook on Thanksgiving, I'm always the one driving to my sister's or mom's.  BUT... we always have the same problem you have.

It's up to me to get some real veggies in... I love this:  Spinach pie (layers of spinach with feta cheese, etc.

OR,  stir-fried Broccoli rabi with olive oil, seasoned with garlic, salt and slivers of almonds (thanks for the reminder ASB).

Almost any veggie tastes great with garlic, salt and a little olive oil.  Asparagus, cauliflower, sauteed swiss chard (add a little pepper and diced onions, parsley and cilantro if you like, for this one).

I love my veggies, can you tell ;;D

If you don't like these, I have other idea, just let me know.

BIG HUGS to you, Ramon and the girls.

Pep

Ummm...Echo..........aren't you positively remowned for your stuffing??
Ah, now I remember, it's not the stuffing, it's your ham glaze, isn't it??

Happy Thanksgiving Prep, everyone...and Helen & Sanna,
since you have been deprived for so long, hop on across the pond..I'll show ya Thanksgiving!
We got this lil habit around here. Once the dishes are done, I take out just a few of my Christmas decorations, then I make up some eggnog and we toast the season! Y'all come, now, heeeyah???

NO NO NO NO Deep fried turkey is so wrong. If that bird don't have bread stuffed up his butt it ain't Thanksgiving dinner.

When my grandson was three the green bean casserole came around the table to him, he looked at the bowl  for a second and announced that he wasn't eatin them fuggin(not his exact words) green beans. I was next to Devin and not to be outdone I announced that I wasn't gonna eat no fuggin(nor mine) green bean casserole neither.Haven't had it since

Umm ... totally agree! Maybe it is a Montana thing. We dont like to get all crazy and creative. God forbid we change tradition. ;;D Oh yah and just a reminder!!!! They put the "extra parts" in both sides of the turkey. I learned the hard way.

I just ass/u/me/d that Ramon would be the one doing the cooking, sorry.

But here it is

It's really easy, but you have to do it correctly or it wont come out perfectly.   And it's not recommended for people who are on a low salt intake diet.

Depending on how many people you are having for dinner, use multiples of three cans of NORMAL cut green beans, not french cut.  And for every three cans you add a package of lipton onion soup mix or beefy onion soup mix, I use either depending on my mood, then you stirr it all up, and cook it on a low boil to medium simmer adding water as it cooks off, you will have to keep cooking them untill the beans start to "break up" then, quit adding water and let the liquid cook down to the consistancy of reduction sauce, then serve.  It's awesome.

you will be amazed at how frickin' good it is.

that sounds good!!   and simple too - that's what I like... the simpler the better... and it's usually the simple ones that taste the best anyhow.

thanks Thomas.........

I will try that..   I dont know what's going on now, cuz Ramon has to work on the day we were going to the friend's house .............grrrrrrrrrrrr
and since we only have one car now...............

i hate the holidays...........dammit >:(
