Title: Wish me Luck folks... Post by Redd715 on Nov 8th, 2006, 7:52pm I got a call today from my older sister Nancy, very distressed. She has been living with in Jouliet IL with her friend Becky and Becky's husband. Apparently, this Becky (who I never really trusted) and my sister have had a huge falling out, and my sister now needs a place to stay till she can get back on her feet again. My sister has some "issues" that as long as she takes her medications she is fine. Now there are some other past legal issues, which makes it difficult for her at her age to restart a new life. I agreed that even though my place is small, she can stay with me for a while so she gets her life back on track. We've never really been the closest, but she is my sister. I can't just leave her out on the street with no where to go and no job, no nothing. So Friday I go to Il to pick her up. Please send vibes out once in a while... When I joked at being the baby of the family, yet the matriarch as well, it wasn't really a joke after all. |

Title: Re: Wish me Luck folks... Post by Jonny on Nov 8th, 2006, 8:26pm Make sure you set a date that she has to be out! My brothers house is worth more than mine, he has a new truck, he has a 26 foot boat, yet he calls me to help him pay his mortgage. Last time he called I told him "sell your fucking boat and stop bothering me, im not Donald Trump" That was two years ago and I have not seen or heard from him since (he lives four miles away) Dont be taken advantage of, Redd.....set a date! |

Title: Re: Wish me Luck folks... Post by Redd715 on Nov 8th, 2006, 9:28pm Thanks everyone for the thoughts and advice. I know the possibility exists that she could take advantage of the situation. Do I think she would? I doubt it. It wasn't easy for her to ask in the first place, I know this, I could hear it in her voice. I live on the public bus route, and there is a call center that is easy to get into to work, even if seasonal, to at least get her started. That was my first job when I had to drop out of college to take care of Mom. Just across the block from me is the low income comples, income based rent. I lived there during and after my divorce. I can't say how this is going to pan out. I'm planning for the worst and hoping for the best. |

Title: Re: Wish me Luck folks... Post by nani on Nov 8th, 2006, 10:47pm Good luck, hon. It's good karma to help her out, but the advice is good. It'll work better if you set some limits and boundaries. I went from being the black sheep to the martriarch. It was more fun being the outcast, LOL. hugs, nani |

Hi Redd, You've got a big heart, I think it comes with CH. If you can handle that you can handle this. I'm the baby too. Sometimes I think it a burden, but then there seems to be special status that comes with it. Have had to make major decisions in my family that didn't at first seem like mine to make. But then, nobody else was stepping up, so I did. Grab on, hold on, you'll do fine... Regards Jon |

Title: Re: Wish me Luck folks... Post by kcopelin on Nov 9th, 2006, 7:47am Redd, Been there (not with a family member but a friend) lets just say, set your rules, be consistent, set a time limit, stick to it, and don't expect any appreciation or thanks. That way, if it happens you'll be pleasantly surprised. And if not, oh well. Listen, you do good out of the goodnes of your heart not expecting rewards right. You treat others as you want to be treated, right? There ya go. Don't let her "issues" get all over you. PFDAN, kathy |
