Title: Seriously Folks..... Post by BarbaraD on Nov 6th, 2006, 6:57pm Tomorrow is ELECTION day. I urge each of you to go vote whether you agree with me or disagree. It's our RIGHT as Americans (about the only one we have left). There's all kinds of referrendums on the ballot. Study them and know what you're voting about. As Eleanor R. said "Vote early and often!" Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by JeffB on Nov 6th, 2006, 7:16pm I wish those outside California could see what we will be voting for this election. We are going to try to tax the oil companies 4 billion dollars to reduce our dependency on foreign oil and raise the cigarette tax $2.60 per pack! And thats just the begining! But I agree, get out and VOTE! |
||
Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by Bob P on Nov 6th, 2006, 7:21pm LOL What's the oil one - we tax the oil companies that drill in Calif and they can't pass the cost back to us in the gas they sell! It's like NAFTA - do you hear that big sucking sound (and I'm not talking about Chewy). |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by kcopelin on Nov 6th, 2006, 7:33pm Tonight Steve (my sweet registered Independent voter husband) and I (Democrat by birth, Republican by the grace of God) will sit down with our California Voter information book and "discuss" politics. We have allotted exactly 30 minutes for this and must decide not only the oil company thingy, but also whether 13 year old girls should be able to continue getting abortions without their parents consent (paid for by MediCal-thats Medicaide for you non-CA folks), whether sex offenders should all have to wear GPS monitors some for life, and whether to raise the taxes on a pack of cigs by (no kidding here) 2.60. My husband just got home and is now asking if I am ready to "do our thing". Serendipitous that we should be talking about this now? I think not. I remember when doing our thing was, well, more fun.. Kathy-proud to be an American, priviledged to vote! |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by Charlie on Nov 7th, 2006, 1:51am I still vote in many ways like my old Republican self; to make sure these creeps have to stop and think down there. Republicans used to be....Republicans.... and that was a large part of what they were about. No more. My votes will largely be obstructionist because of the damage the current goons can and have done to us. Slow them down, kids. Charlie |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by Barry_T_Coles on Nov 7th, 2006, 2:55am I once saw the voting forms for one sort of election in the US and fair dinkum it looked pretty much like our Sunday news paper that usually takes me three days to read. Our voting system is just so simple; there might be 5 candidates for one position and all you do is number the boxes 1 – 5 in order of preference or if you are really lazy you just vote for the political party of your choice. Cheers Barry |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by AussieBrian on Nov 7th, 2006, 6:09am It's the beauty of democracy. If you have right to vote, and choose not to, you've lost your right to complain about the outcome. |

Ah, and that would be lovely. Are your ballots paper? With 50 states having 50 different ways of voting (paper, touch screen, voting machines), that would be difficult. I never could make some of my British friends (from another board) understand that we can't *spoil* a ballot. Husband will vote this morning and daughter and I will vote this afternoon. 'darlin |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by FramCire on Nov 7th, 2006, 9:05am I am voting in the great state of Missouri where we can vote for a weaslely looking guy who has run a very shady and dirty campaign or a weasly like woman who has run an ugly campaign too. I am ashamed to be voting for one of them and knowing the "balance of power" may shift even slightly with one of these clowns. We also have a few very controversial ballot issues. Sadly, like usual, they are not straight forward. They have added a bunch of weird stuff to make them look like they are one thing when they are another. Good thing the newspaper prints the ENTIRE question weeks in advance for us to read. Anyway, go out and vote. If you are voting with me, vote today! If you are voting against me, wait until the lines are shorter tomorrow. ;;D BTW, I'll let you know Wednesday which way I voted so you can choose which way to vote! |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by FramCire on Nov 7th, 2006, 1:36pm I just vetoed!!!!!!!!! (OK I voted, but wouldn't having the power to veto rule!!!) Anyway fellow Americans, go out and vote! |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by thomas on Nov 7th, 2006, 1:43pm The important voting takes place in the primaries, but nobody ever shows up for those. There isn't a single person on my ballot that I want to vote for. We do have an ammendment that I care about voting against, but otherwise I will have to hold my nose and vote or write some one in for all of the officials. |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by Redd715 on Nov 7th, 2006, 1:45pm Being the political ad coordinator, I've seen some ghastly ad's cross my desk for sleezy endorsements. Sheriff's race has been almost a blood bath from the apposing candidate to the incumbant. Incumbant breaks news of the arrest of a suspect finally of a 3 year old murder just 4 days prior to the elections? Something very fishy going on here. One that struck me as totally odd, however, was an unapposed candidate for state Representitive spending 3K in advertizing. Who's NOT going to vote for the guy? He's unapposed!! |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by seasonalboomer on Nov 7th, 2006, 4:23pm the present system eliminates any possibility that a person with a relevant background to that of a majority of the population would even consider running. thus we're beset with these horrid examples from both sides of the spectrum. so many good men and women, the kind we need truly making the difficult decisions going forward, would never put themselves or their families through this mess we call the electoral process nowadays. from the local level all the way up to the president. i voted today to simply tell "them" i will not give in. i will be here, waiting for the day when the revolution of common sense takes control of the process again. i don't like the people i voted for today any more than the ones i didn't vote for. but i won't give in. |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by Linda_Howell on Nov 7th, 2006, 5:12pm Yesterday the day before voting day, when I gassed up my car, gas stations all over town were selling it for 2.17 a gallon. Today on my way to vote they had all gone up to around 2.45 Hmmm. co-incidence.? should have put "bozo the clown" in the write-ins. |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by Jonny on Nov 7th, 2006, 8:24pm I wrote in "Beth" ;;D I have never voted until I got wind of the idiots in my family, I never talk polotics cause I never voted (That dont mean I dont know the issues)and never thought to till now. Awhile back I asked my Mom who she was going to vote for, she said "Democrat of course, I always do".....I asked her "Do you know anything about the dem pol?".....she said "No, I always vote Democrat"......nuff said! I asked the wife the same question, she said "The democrat".....I asked why not the repblican woman. She said "Cause she seems like a bitch? Now, I ask "What about the issues?"......she says "What issues?" I knew at this point that I was dealing with idiots within my own family and this is the reason its so important to vote, So, I broke my cherry and got out there and did it. Still, I cant see my vote ever counting in this state until a repub drives a chick off a bridge and kills her....too sad! |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by Tiannia on Nov 7th, 2006, 8:38pm Here in Southern Nevada, You could have the gubernatorial candidate that is under investigation for molesting a woman outside a bar 3 weeks ago. Or the County Commissioner who is being investigated for using her campaign funds to pay her nanny and that she did not live in her preceint prior to putting herself into the race. We have the "Should the State Congress HAVE to approved a budget for schools before they fund everything else in the state?" or the "If the State Congress has to hold a sepcial session to approve the budget, shout they get special extra pay for it?" Oh and the one I love the most. "Should Nevada be a non-smoking state? Where even in a casino, smoking is not allowed because children walk thru them with thier parents.? |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by Gator on Nov 8th, 2006, 1:34am Way to go Jonny! Maybe your votes won't get the people you voted for in office, but they will at least cancel out one set of votes that went the other way. http://www.ericalucci.com/storyimg/2004/Oct/voted.jpg |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by georgej on Nov 8th, 2006, 1:52am Looks like it'll be verrry early in the morning before we discover whether the gubernatorial candidate here who was busted on a DUI a few years ago after winning a tight-jeans contest at a local bar will be the next governor. He tried to talk his way out of it by claiming that his whiskey-flavored chewing tobacco made him blow over the limit. Fun stuff. ;) Best, George |

Title: Re: Seriously Folks..... Post by BarbaraD on Nov 8th, 2006, 1:29pm Apparently the elections went demo mostly. Rummy resigned this morning and George accepted his resignation. He's putting his Dad's old CIA guy in. Might just get interesting... Unfortunately, Texas didn't get Kinky in so it'll be 4 more years of the same old same old. But maybe we'll get some changes for the better -- one can only hope. Jonny, some of us were brought up to be demo/rep. But some of us got to thinking about the person running and started listening and watching how they voted and now don't vote a straight ticket anymore. But a lot of people don't. Some of our local elections have been won by two or three votes (and we know who didn't get out and vote!) so anytime you think your vote doesn't count - think again. Anyhow, now can we go back to bashing Bob P? ;;D Hugs BD |
