Title: Re: after 2 1/2 years Post by maffumatt on Oct 31st, 2006, 9:00am It still amazes me that we can forget the intensity of this pain. I wonder if it is some kind of mind self defense mechanism at work? Sorry they are back, its time to get your arsenal out and get ready to fight. Be strong and remember that your stronger than it is. We are behind you. Matt |

Many people here use trex that has long since expired. Maybe some strength decline issues. I've used some recently that had expired in '05. If your trex was stored properly (in correct temperatures) should be okay.........my opinion here. John |

Title: Re: after 2 1/2 years Post by Margi on Oct 31st, 2006, 11:52am ditto what Vig said - hunker down, go to war and don't lose sight of the light at the end of the tunnel. We'll be right here if you feel like you're running out of rope. We have an endless supply, remember. Maybe talk to your doc about starting Verapamil to lower that blood pressure? OR...before you do that....consider the alternatives approach? You do have options. |

Title: Re: after 2 1/2 years Post by tpitts77 on Oct 31st, 2006, 12:35pm The Imitrex should have an expiration date on the side of the box. They are usually good for about 2 years. PF wishes! |

Title: Re: after 2 1/2 years Post by sandie99 on Oct 31st, 2006, 1:27pm Drap, I'm so sorry that the beast is back to torture you again. I am glad that you got nicely PF in between - that means that you know that it's possible to be PF again! I hope that you know that here's always lots of info and lots of other sufferers and their supporters to turn to when you need advice or just vent. PF days, Sanna |

Title: Re: after 2 1/2 years Post by Mattrf on Oct 31st, 2006, 2:54pm I had a friend that was a medic and he said that the expiration was a date that the medication started to loose potency, so it is ok to still use it, it just might not be as effective is all. I am so sorry that it came back to visit, hang in there and come talk to us so we can help you get through it. Have you used O2? Melatonin? Hit it with all you got, I think our minds make us forget how bad it was to help protect us from ourselves, if we remembered the panic of waiting for the next cycle would be far worse I guess if it didn’t try and make us forget how bad it was. Welcome back and sorry you had to come back. Matt |

Title: Re: after 2 1/2 years Post by Charlie on Oct 31st, 2006, 6:14pm Rats. Hate to hear that this horror returned. Hold on and keep after the prick. You might as well try my thing: Dr. Wright’s Circulatory Technique: I am not sure what mechanism is triggered by this but whatever it is, at least indirectly helps kill the pain. I do know that this technique has nothing to do with meditation, relaxation, or psychic ability. It is entirely physical and takes some work. It involves concentrating on trying to redirect a little circulation to the arms, hands, or legs. It can described as a conscious circulatory flexing. Increased circulation will result in a reddening and warming of the hands. Try to think of it as filling your hands with redirected blood. The important and difficult part is that it has to be done without interruption through the pain. Do not give up in frustration. It may not work on the first try. Every now and then it will work almost immediately. I lived for those moments. Try experimenting between attacks. You will find that it gets easier with practice. I was given less than five minutes instruction in the use of method. The doctor, while placing his arm on his desk, showed me that he could slightly increase his arm and hand circulation. After several attempts, I was able to repeat this procedure and use it successfully. I have had about a 75% success rate shortening these attacks. My 20 minute attacks were often reduced to 10 minutes or less. Once proven that I had a chance to effectively deal with this horror, I always gave it a try as I had nothing to lose but pain. Perhaps it will help if you think of it as trying to fill the arm as if it is were an empty vessel. I used to try to imagine I was pushing blood away from my head into my arm. Use your imagination. There is one man who wrote that his standing barefoot on a concrete floor shortened his attacks. This may be similar as it draws some circulation away from the head. Cold water, exercise, or anything affecting circulation, seems to be worth a try. My suggestion is to not let up immediately when the pain goes. Waiting a minute is probably a good idea. So long as you do not slack off, this has a chance of working. This technique is very useful while waiting for medication to take effect or when none is available. It costs nothing, is non-invasive, and can be used just about anywhere. It is not a miracle but it helped me deal with this horror. It can be a bit exhausting but the success rate was good enough for me and a cluster headache sufferer will do just about anything to end the pain. It gives us a fighting chance. Charlie |
