Title: un-Wrecked!!! Update. Post by Carl_D on Oct 26th, 2006, 3:39am I just lost my job, but not of any fault of mine. My client went insane tonight and attacked his brother, his stepdad, punched his mom in the face and broke down a door when they tried to subdue him. So, he is officially gone and won't be coming back which means I am out of work. I have been employed as an independent habilitation technician with this job, and the only reason I have tried to hold onto it (despite a nervous breakdown a few weeks ago) is because I am back in cycle and I could work around my CH's. Not too many jobs do that, but it looks like I am putting together a new resume and hitting the streets again. It's both a relief since it has been a hard job (taking care of someone with a brain injury requires alot of patience) and my nerves have been shot the last few weeks. My sis in law told me Tuesday night that I don't make enough to deal with this 10-12 hours a day, but like I told her, at least I was able to hold it down. I was in chat a few hours ago busting a gut and laughing my ass completely off. Then I was in a kip 8. Coming out of that, I find this out - so I am pretty fried right now. I do consider it for the best though, as he could have waited to lose it until this morning while I am alone with him, and only god knows what might've happend then. It took two people to subdue him until the cops came, and I would've had to knock his ass out, as he would have probably overpowered me (you know what they say about the strength of someone who has gone insane) as he is 6'4" and about 240lbs. As it is, I have been awake again for 37 hours, and not sure I will fall asleep anytime soon. Just too shook up and freaked out. I can't afford to miss a day of work right now, much less be out of work. So I am both relieved and panicking but like George said... am going to just try and calm down and focus on relief. Like Rosanna Rosannadanna used to say, "If it isn't one thing it's another." Freaked out, Carl |

Get back up on the horse again, you've got good experience for quite awhile now and the need continues for ind. hab. techs. You know what it involves and would be a cool-headed guy to have around, caring during a wide variety of a patient's moods, experiencing many yourself too with the days and nights of insomnia. ;) |

Title: Re: Wrecked!!! Post by Carl_D on Oct 26th, 2006, 10:47pm Thanks y'all. It looks like everything is working out okay. My client is back home and apologizing profusely. His mother is staying home from work tomorrow with him, and I will be going over to talk to him for a couple of hours. One thing I have been good at over the years is 'talking people down'. One art of it is if someone starts getting irate, to get irate back just adds fuel to the fire. I learned it with my brother. If we would argue, as his voice got louder, mine would get softer. Believe it or not - this technique actually works! When I worked fo the music distribution company back in Michigan, anytime my boss was dealing with an irate caller, he would hand me the phone and I would talk them down and take care of whatever the problem was. So, it looks like I go back to work Monday. I have mixed feelings about it, but am mega relieved, as I have a 4 day break from the madness (which I needed after the past two weeks) and provided nothing happens between now and then, things will work out. However, this shows me how unstable my job is, so I am thinking ahead and putting my resume together. ;) Thanks to everyone who listened in chat last night, and I think you guys know this by now but I have more fight in me than I ever did since I had the long remission this year after the chronic hell. on 10/26/06 at 08:13:53, AussieBrian wrote:
