I haven't dated anybody in quite some time now, but I'm going on a first date tonight. The guy I'm going out with is named John, and he is an intern, but in an osteopathic program to become an ENT/facial plastic surgeon. I always feel rather hesitant about bringing up my medical stuff with dates, because I certainly don't want them to view me as a freak of nature, but the other day, I had given him the link to my England photos. I suddenly realized that I'd have to explain to him the set named, "Clusterheads in England" - so I mentioned that I have cluster headaches, and that I was going to England to stay with a friend who also had them.

All the sudden, he says, "OH! I have a hilarious story about cluster headaches!"

My eyebrows raised as I said, "You do?"

He then told me that his roommate from med school had clusters. He said his roommate was a bit of a drama queen, but he'd come into his room one night during a hit - crying. Somehow he'd messed up with the imitrex injector - dropped it or something, and shot imitrex into his eye. (Not the needle - just the medicine) He had rushed into John's room, crying, wanting John to take him to the ER since he now had imitrex into his eye.

John went on and on about the story. And then said (in a joking way), "Well....I won't hold it (CH) against you!!" HAHA!!

This is the first time I've ever met somebody who continues to treat me just like any normal person, in spite of actually knowing about clusters!! I also don't have to explain it to him, teach him about it, etc.

Maybe, just maybe, he's a keeper???

Fingers crossed!! Our first date is to go out to dinner tonight!! I'm excited!! Going to take a beauty nap first..hehe ;)

I hope you enjoy it. great news about the CH experience. it doesnt matter how much you educate people they never really get it till they see it.

I love the idea of having a big brother to look out for me here! I don't think he would do that though - he didn't mean his friend was a drama queen because of his CH - but just that he was a natural drama queen, in spite of CH. And he did say that he was trying very hard not to laugh about the imitrex thing because he knew his friend was in serious pain, but it just was one of those incidents where you have to bite your lip....at least he was trying!!

I'm hoping he won't have to see me get hit tonight at the very least!! ;)

Medical people are pretty laid back and not much can shock them so you should be fine.

OK OK

The date actually ended around 9pm - mainly because we both have to work today. He is on call tonight, and I'll be in the NICU from 11am-11pm - so I'm about to leave in 5 minutes.

It was a lot of fun - had a great dinner! We then walked around my town, even though it was freeeeeeeeeeezing out!! Then he came back here for a bit, and we talked - he even heard me play piano for a song! ;)

First dates are always awkward.....I don't really like them! But we did have a good time - he told me later he'd had fun. :) Guess we'll see where it goes from here...!

Annette - I know medical people are laid back - I am one!! ;)

I'd write more, but work calls!

Sounds good so far. I am glad I have Kevin (KMG) NO explaining necessary. You think two clusterheads would not work but it does.

Good thing about a resident. He could be a great supporter.

Bad thing he will be on call a lot and you will have to manage alone.

Sounds like you could manage.

LMAO NO!

Randy should know better - I'm close enough to drive over there and smack him for that first comment up there! ::)

John did give me a quick kiss goodnight - that's as physical as it got!

Today, we've been text messaging back and forth at work as we've both had incredibly crappy days at the hospital. So even though we both had crazy days - we kept the communication going! That's always good at least... Never know what to think after those first dates! ;)
