Title: Pain management (SUNCT)
Post by Mattrf on Oct 19th, 2006, 11:04am
So we have tried everything except the Ladicain drip and surgery in the past 10+ months and nothing has helped the constant pain that SUNCT causes. So I am at the point that I would welcome surgery to stop this and give me back my life, but when I got home last night my wife just lost it, she is completely freaked about someone poking around in my head and what the possible side effects could be. She said she just can take it anymore, seeing me in constant pain and withdrawing from the family and doing nothing but work and sleep, she said she needs her husband back and the kids need there dad back. I agree but what can I do, this monster is controlling my life if I like it or not, by the end of a day of fighting the constant pain it is all I can do to help with the kids dinner before crashing in the bedroom to escape reality. She wants me to see a pain management doctor to get treated for the pain with something that might actually help, right now I take anywhere from 8 – 12 Tylenol #4 a day and all they do is make it tolerable but no true relief from it.
This little bastard has ruined us mentally and financially, the trip to Mayo clinic has cleaned us out and I have probably not gotten all the bills from them yet and that was just for tests and such, if I went for surgery there I might have to sell my house, so not only am I in pain physically but also mentally for what this is doing to my wife mentally and also what it has done to our finances.
As much as I want to have the surgery to make this stop, I just can’t put my wife through that, so I will go to the pain management doctor and see what he wants to do and hope that I can deal with being even more doped up and hope that I get some relief and maybe in the process have a little of my old self come back and be able to plug back into my life.

Just needed to get this out and if I told my wife how I was really feeling it would just send her over the deep end, she has reached her limit and is very close to have a breakdown and I need to try and avoid that, we have enough doctor bills we can’t pay now and don’t need more. It just breaks my hart to see my wife in such pain and knowing it is my fault even if I had no control over it, it is still my condition that has caused all this damage to my family.

Thanks for listening.

Matt

Matt,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time. The chronic pain compounded by the effect on the finances and the family can be unbearable.  When I was married and in cycle, toward the end I only wished for the day that I could walk away and atleast relieve my family of this horrible burden. which I did the cycle before last. I wish I had a fairy tale ending to relay, or some amswers, but I am afraid I only have hope that you find a treatment that brings your life back somewhere close to normal.

I'm so sorry that you are still getting spanked by hundreds and thousands of those f-en zaps.

It sucks!

I wish I knew what to tell you.

You have been nonresponsive to neurontin, correct?

It seems that that and similar meds are what is commonly used and effective with SUNCT.

That sucks!

I understand the zaps. idiopathic stabbing HA is similar but responsive to indocin.

I hate having multiple HA types but certainly would not enjoy what you endure.

Peace brother!

E
