Title: "Soylent Radio Show" About To Become A Reality! Post by Carl_D on Oct 19th, 2006, 3:59am Today, Satellite 11 network was born on internet radio. The brainchild of this, Ian Baird has been doing podcasts for awhile now, and I was interviewed a few weeks back, yadda yadda yadda. The way his casts worked though, the link changed everyday because it was not a 24/7 thing, and it changed everytime he signed off and on. He has subscribers he sends the 'secret link' to for each broadcast, since his computer acted as the server. He had been in talks with a business partner about starting a fulltime 24/7 internet station. He called me awhile back and said, "If we do this, it will not be humanly possible for me to DJ 24/7 365 since I am in two bands, am a studio sessions player and have a family. I have a 10 slot system for logins, and have a few dj's that will be in rotation through the week." I knew where he was going with this... I got nervous. He continued, "I know you have the talent, the musical knowledge needed and think you have a good radio voice. Would you like to take one of the slots and host your own show?" I freaked and said "HELL -YA! Does this mean no FCC regulations and I can play anything I choose to play?" "Yes indeed. You have free reign over your show" We've been keeping in touch as they've been getting it together, and it is like everything is fitting into the perfect time. I just got a new machine that is much faster and will handle the broadcasting software I'll need to broadcast from my own home. Right now this is my tentative schedule: "The Soylent Radio Show" hosted by Mack Danger on Sundays from noon til midnight! Yes, I am pulling a 12 hour day for the show every week, but this will also entail alot of prep work through the week, so this is going to cut down alot on my 'online free time' except for when I am at work. I am preparing some discs for streaming so I don't have to be glued to the machine, but it will sound like a live broadcast. These are being created in the event I get hit with a CH on the air and cannot talk for an hour or so. CH aside, I plan to do the show totally live, the way it should be. I'll be playing all kinds of old and new music, will have comedy clips, interviews and some special guests. One program I will have a segment where I interview a 'scene kid who used to be emo' and a 'goth girl who used to be emo' and that should be interesting to say the least. I also have some other fun stuff up my sleeve and all sorts of shenanigans. The network is now being setup on a UK server, which was a last minute decision Ian and his business partner made for various reasons, and he is also seeking 2 DJ's in the UK who can take 2 of the host slots. The dude has worked his tail off on this, and it looks like I've got alot of eggs in my basket now as I have to record some soundbytes for the show and stuff, get songs organized, and go through my discs and rip some mp3s of stuff I don't have mp3'd, and will be doing some aggressive music-swapping to obtain new stuff. I will also be supporting the underground by playing some great unsigned bands, and once I have the myspace page setup to promote the show, will be encouraging indie acts to send me their discs. cont. |

Title: Re: "Soylent Radio Show" About To Become Post by Carl_D on Oct 19th, 2006, 4:23am One feature I am planning on doing is "Dedication hour" at maybe 6pm. This is an oldschool radio thing I remember from back in the 70's where you could call the radio station, say like I did with an old g/f, and request a song going out to somebody and what ever reason (for instance, I said "Could you play 'Come Sail Away' from Styx to Julie from Carl, and let her know the boat is ready." It was too cool when they played it, because I had her listening to the radio when it played. Ah, the good ole days when I was young.... ...anyways, people will be able to do dedications via emails or instant messages on AIM. They are building the website right now for satellite 11 networks which should be www.satellite11network.com, and I will have an email account on the website as well as the rest of the DJ's. My graphics guy is currently working on the button and logo for "The Soylent Radio Show" and I just got broadcasting software I have to test out. This will take alot of work, but man oh man I am excited. The best part is... with this being my 'bad time' of year with sleep issues, CH, fibro and arthritis... I don't have to struggle to get to the studio. I can do it from home. Since it will be on a permanent 2 terrabyte server, the link will never change. It will stay 24/7, and once I have it I will put it at the bottom of my posts in my profile area down with my other links. I am still brainstorming show ideas for skits and stuff, and am getting ready to sign off here so I can rip some mp3's and work on my book before going to work in the morning. I slept ALOT last night between attacks, and missed work today as a result. Tomorrow (today) is my day off, but was able to pick up the extra day which will be permanent. I am going from 3 days to 4 days a week, and they are long ass days. So with the nervous anxiety of not wanting to even be late, I am staying up and working through the night. The CH's are keeping me bent a bit. They are getting frequent again, and the intensity has escalated and it takes a full shot of trex to abort sometimes. Luckily I have sprays for backup, or for when I am walking Zombie and I get hit like I did yesterday and had to turn around, come home and give myself a shot before I could even give him a treat. So, I could use some vibes. I've got all this going now, and I just started recording again!!!!!!! I almost have the first two drum tracks completed, then I can begin layering the tracks and finish 2 songs. The first two I am recording are "The Shadow" an instrumental, and "Dance Without Music" which was written from Daddy's Devil's poem "Dance To No Music". I changed the name for the song and one thing that repeats throughout the song is "Eyes on fire, time to rock. Pacing the floor, watching the clock." Once both songs are finished they will be posted online for all to hear, but you'll have to wait to hear the rest of the "FORMER - The Loss of God" disc until it is comlete. ;;D It will take longer to record than in the past. I could throw down an entire song in one day, but had little equipment and just a 4 track cassette recorder. Now I have a massive studio program to learn the ins and outs to, and want to get the best sound quality possible. This will be the last FORMER disc, and I want to do it up nice. Geez, I feel like all I do anymore is work. One word that has not been in my vocabulary in a very long time is 'bored'. I have way too much shit to do to ever become bored, and life is too short. Sorry for the long winded post, but as you may have figured out by now, I am hella-excited!!! Warring Peace, Carl "Mack" D |
