Hmm, I have been there, and never saw a pop-up, and received no new viruses for my collection. Granted the site is un-viewable unless you are running flash-block, no-script and ad-block on your browser. As for messing up you computer, I hope you aren't granting your son admin rights on his login. If he was using your login, it's time to use a stronger password. I did block myspace in the proxy on my daughters computer, but do go there to get the latest weird al songs. Paul |

Title: Re: Don't go to myspace.com Post by Carl_D on Oct 19th, 2006, 2:58am Myspace is only a virus accumulator if used by a naive kid who clicks on all kinds of bad links in bad profiles, or doesn't know how to spot phony 'myspacebot' profiles that contain links to 'my webcam, come see me play' and when you click on those links, THAT'S where you get the viruses; not from myspace. I have been a user for a year (yes I have a life, but it is a great networking site, especially for anyone in the arts, music, acting, etc. ) and I have ran into many old friends on myspace, many old chums have found me on myspace, and I have met many good people on myspace. HOWEVER, it does have it flaws like... now it is over 120'000'000 members, and they have to keep updating the servers... the thing is almost on freaking overload. Mypsace is also great for people who want their own webpage, but don't have the 'know how' to build one. This makes it easy, and you can send a message to a friend, it has an instant messenger (which I will not load until they work out the bugs since it is in beta mode), and you can send bulletins to all of your friends at once. Plus, you have your online blog/ journal you can use however you want. Mine is half journal / half blog. There are internet predators out there though, as with any site like aol or yahoo... however they did just bust a guy using myspace as a sting. In fact, myspace has also helped in a missing persons case... there are many good things about this site. The forums for discussions are great... different forums for everything from music to sports, movies, traveling, you name it. People can also create groups for disussions (I am moderator of the 'megamoviemania' group and Thomas is Moderator of the "Cluster Headache Sufferers and Supporters" group). There are 3 different CH groups on there, and I have met CHeads on Myspace that I didn't meet here (some people still don't know about CH.com folks). And for all you parents who have kids with a myspace account: You can learn alot about your kid by what they put on their page and thier blogs. My niece has not been allowed to have a myspace, because her old page was pretty shocking. I learned alot about her that I didn't know, and it also confirmed suspiscions about things she had been doing. She has since cleaned up her act (thank GOD). Myspace was originally created for friend networking and for independent bands to get their music online (like moi). My music page is www.myspace.com/former1970 where I have 4 tracks streamable and available for download. And lastly, as far as the 'lonely' thing, I guess you could say I was pretty lonely this time last year when I really began utilizing my account, since I couldn't hardly fucking walk, had no phone, and the insomnia combined with pain and isolation... I got bitched out here for whining too much and so myspace became my refuge. I shed alot of skin in my blogs, because I mainly consider it a journal and I have often said "My life is an open book" and if anyone can relate to what I am going through, or I can raise any kind of awareness like I did with my "When A Man Becomes Less Than A Man and Questions His Testes" blog about low testotserone and how dangerous it can be for men. I blew some minds with that post, as I just took a bad situation and presented it in a comical way. Therefore, I support Myspace and this Tom guy who is always breaking and fixing stuff on the site. I have made friends all over the world and even met people locally whom I've become good friends with. However, CH.Com will always be the place I call "home on the internet range." Peace, Carl "Mack Danger" |
