Title: Re: How young is to young? Post by LeLimey on Oct 17th, 2006, 6:24pm I wonder if these same parents would let him fry eggs or cook on a BBQ or build a fire.. Its not teaching a child to shoot I have a problem with. It's putting a gun in the hand of a child who has no concept of what it is, what he is doing and that it needs to be treated responsibly. In fairness though, hopefully this is just one of those home videos by usually responsible parents who just want their kids to be able to say they were firing guns before they could write or some such statement. ::) |

If that were the case the father would not have to load he gun a second time and make the kid shoot it again. This guy should be in jail for indangering a child, in my opinion!! |

Title: Re: How young is to young? Post by Sean_C on Oct 17th, 2006, 7:24pm Seeing that the child is going to assume its a toy from this point forward, I hope his father locks his guns up when he's not using them. For his childs safety and everybody elses. :-/ Sean................................. |

Title: Re: How young is to young? Post by Jonny on Oct 17th, 2006, 8:31pm More than likely that kid will hold that gun many more times before he can even lift it to shoot it himself.....its fucking sad, real sad!! |

Title: Re: How young is to young? Post by BB on Oct 17th, 2006, 10:13pm That is definitely too young, he is barely able to run. What concerns me is mother is there too apparently and she had not tried to stop it ! Mothers should know better. There is absolutely nothing to gain from teaching a child that young how to shoot a real gun, loaded ! The poor child was rather uncomfortable, he broke off to run to mummy as soon as dad released his hold! Poor kid ! Imagine what else he would be forced to learn despite his tender age. Sad ! Title: Re: How young is to young? Post by georgej on Oct 18th, 2006, 1:23am Way too young. I wouldn't allow any kid who hasn't taken a hunter safety course to handle a firearm, let alone fire one. Here, you can take the course when you're twelve years old. That's a reasonable age to introduce a kid to the use of firearms as far as I'm concerned. No way. That is nuts. Best, George |

Title: Re: How young is to young? Post by deltadarlin on Oct 18th, 2006, 7:48am For those of us on ancient dial-up, what is the video about? I can *assume* that it's about a dada giving a little one a gun? 'darlin |

Title: Re: How young is to young? Post by john_d on Oct 18th, 2006, 7:53am The kid was just pulling the trigger while his dad held it. If in addition to this his dad was teaching him not to respect the firearm or worse, other human beings- it would definitely be a problem. If it were being treated like a toy the kid would not be wearing safety gear. |

Well, its a father holding the hands of what seems to be a two year old boy on the grip of a semi-automatic pistol. the childs face is about one foot from the back of the gun as the shells discharge and the kid has no eye gear on. While firing the second clip a shell discharges and hits the mother (who is filming) and she says "Ow".....shes about four feet away. The kid does have ear protection on, but will that matter if the kid is blinded? on 10/18/06 at 07:53:46, john_d wrote:

Title: Re: How young is to young? Post by Dragnlance on Oct 19th, 2006, 10:12am You callin me a criminal boy??? ;;D Actually I was about the same age when I first started shooting. The key is respect and education. This is not a toy, and life is not to be wasted. It is up to the parents to teach these kinds of values and stress them. Punishment when the kids try to use the firearm for uses that are not acceptable. I am 43, and bought my first rifle when I was 13. Never once have I used it in any manner against another human. This is due to the way I was taught. I see nothing wrong with the kid learning to shoot early. Dragn |

Title: Re: How young is to young? Post by Richr8 on Oct 19th, 2006, 12:13pm Hmmm! I think I started taking my boys shooting at 10 or so. IMO, that's early enough. This is insane, |

Title: Re: How young is to young? Post by Tiannia on Oct 19th, 2006, 12:38pm OK we have guns in the house. Each of the kids have seen dad and I take them apart and clean them and put them back together. They know what each of the pieces are called and such. The only "gun" that they have shot. Daughter is 9 and son is 4. Is the pellet gun that dad has shown them how to shoot and hold. It is like a light weight shot gun. I was 9 when I went hunting with my dad and learned how to shot a pistol, rifle and 30.6 Our guns are locked up and the kids know that they are not toys that they can kill people if they try to play with then or even tough one without dad or I with them. This dad should be made to see that this is screwed. |

I will give you that I would not choose to introduce my children to my firearms. But then I don't have either children or firearms. But my fathers side of the family is all rural and it's just different out there. For my cousins, firearms are a part of life but then so is respect and good manners. |

Title: Re: How young is to young? Post by deltadarlin on Oct 19th, 2006, 2:07pm Damn, I had to log in just sos I cud post. I remember being *little*, and I know I wasn't but 3 or maybe even 4 (if that old). Daddy would help me hold the gun and I'd sight and pull the trigger. I never wore protective eye gear and didn't start wearing protective ear gear until the past few years. I was raised around guns, daddy kept a loaded pistol in his desk drawer and before we got the gun case, there were usually several loaded rifles in the closet. And you can bet your sweet a$$ that there was no amount of *bribery* that could have enticed me to touch one of his guns. Most of the guns that I shoot/have shot eject the empty casings to the side, not the back. 'darlin |

Title: Re: How young is to young? Post by Charlie on Oct 19th, 2006, 7:44pm It flies in the face of common sense. This is good for whom here? We had guns all over the house; rarely picked them up or even discussed the things until I was 12 or so. The thing here is that this kid will see them used on TV and how "sanitary" their use seems. The guy's an idiot. Charlie |
