Title: One more payment ...
Post by unsolved1 on Oct 13th, 2006, 8:47am
1 more payment and it's all mine. It's not much, but It's all I have for now.

It's a 96' Ford F-150 XLT. Fully loaded w/ low miles. Perfect condition inside & out. looks, runs, and drives like new.

Should I keep it or trade up ??

UNsolved

PS. I'm leaning towards keeping it and buying a new riding lawn mower & trailer so my 13 yo son can cut grass next year for some xtra spending money. Of course I'll be sleeping in the cab  ;;D

PS2   Does anyone have any suggestions on riding lawn mowers ?

Nice truck Mike, I say keep it....at least for a while. Those Ford's will go forever. I had my last F-150 for 11 years and I just got a new '06 F-150 back in July. Believe me that one payment to go sounds pretty good.
As for the riding mowers I don't know much about them but I doubt that you can go wrong as long as you remember, Nothing runs like a Deere  ;)

I'd keep it, you could still drive it a long time, the opportunity to get something new will always be there. With your son's job opportunies, you'll be ahead in the long run.

Don't worry about any future declining trade-in value, it's ten years old now.  Besides, the future price for copper might go up!  ;)

As long as it's serving you well with little or no repair issues, I'd say keep it.

Continue to make payments.....to yourself. Set up a account and deposit your payment every month. You are already budgeted for that money so it won't hurt a bit. In a few years when you are in need of a new truck, the $$$ will be there to pay cash for one.

Get rid of it, the American economy needs the activity. Better yet, buy Japanese, they need the money to buy nukes!

Nice truck like that....why would you trade it?

*No vehicle payment
*Lower insurance
*Cheaper plates

Personally, I'd do what Bill suggested.  As long as it's mechanically sound, why get rid of it?  Then again, nothing I own is newer that 11 year old.

Cool. Keep it but maybe you can get my cousin to sell you this Bronco that I keep for him. Almost nothing in this picture is mine. My friend needs a shed to store his household sale equipment. I have room only for my lawnmower.

Mike I have a 97 F-250, 320K miles, I use it for work everyday. Original drive train, never touched it other than oil changes, brakes and other maintenance crap. The way I look at it is, its total cost to me is about .07 per mile of usage.

Anybody ever do the math on there vehicle?

Keep it.  I had a '67 F250 352 V8 that only gave up the final ghost a year ago.  Run 'em 'till they shake apart, I say.  Never had to worry about scratching it up when I was running around in the toolies, and simple enough that even a motor-dork like me could keep it running.  Had a lot of peculiar behaviors, but I was used to them.

No car payment is also a beautiful thing.

Best,

George

A great way to save!
Both Joanna and my car are almost paid up and though I need to upgrade from a coupe to a family ( at least 4 door) car it will save me almost 500 per month and when she is done that will be nearly 1000.........A yr or two without payments could be quite awesome considering we do fine right now with the payments.

Save bro and you will have plenty to play with

I vote keep the car.  In three years, your son is going to want some wheels.  Why not this one?

Glad you people like the thing. I know little about it. I quit getting excited about cars nearly 47 years ago. I don't pay much attention to his cominigs and goings as  he lives about 1-1/2 miles from me and the last time I saw or heard from him was June 2nd.   :(

He loves the Bronco though and drives around in fairly new one that he rebuilt into something unrecognizable. I know that when I ride with him, it's like an excursion for me to climb near the door and hoist myself in. It's a nice view from up there though.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I have made up my mind and I am keeping it. No payments due and it runs great. I haven't had anything go wrong with it so far. I see no reason to let go of it.

I am going to enjoy the xtra money too!! I think I'll spend some $$ on my son. He really deserves it. I'm still buying him a riding lawn mower & trailer so he can cut grass next year. Earning his own money will be good for him. I think he'll value his own cash more.

Thanks all
