Jim's wife called me this morning...the doc's at Mayo admitted Jim late yesterday afternoon.

The doc started Jim off on Lithium yesterday..and this morning, they started DHE treatment. He has to stay for 3 days...and he's already missing being here.

Jim has very little pf time...and hopefully, this will give him a much needed break.

Jim's a very special friend to me.

He's always worrying about how others are doing..while he's battling more pain than anyone should have too.

Jim and I talked and shared a few tears together this morning. He's doing ok...just needs some quality pf time. He's mentally and physically exhausted...but has high hopes the DHE will break this cycle of unending pain.

Jim would never ask for your thoughts and prayers...but I would...and I'm asking that you take a minute and send my friend, and yours...vibes and prayers to help him get through this.

Jim sends his love...and wants you all to know that he misses you.

Jim I am so sorry that you are having to go through this but I honestly think you are in the right place. I know that is easy for me to say (I HATE HOSPITALS),but there is an advantage to letting the Doctors actually see what you are dealing with even if they can't feel it.

Kathy is a great supporter to Jim. She's right beside him at the hospital..and she's taking a day or 2 of vacation in order to stay till he's released.

Jim is always one of the people who reminds me what i love about this place. My sons and I will say a prayer for him tonight. Can we send some baloons to his room? I talked to Jim late this afternoon.

;;D He cracks me up...he's already asked the nurses for a laptop :o ::) Needless to say...he didn't get one.

He was a bit loopy when we talked...he had a CH earlier and they gave him Ativan...so he was mellowed to say the least.

He's ok...and that's what's important.

He sends his love...and also said for me to send his vibes for anyone here who is in pain. :-*

I wish I could Steph, but unfortunately balloons don't do well under pressure from airline flights. I mean, it can be done, but I wouldn't want to take the chance of having them explode and Jim getting a bunch of deflated foil. KWIM? :-[ I could find a place near him that does deliveries though, just let me know and I'll start looking.

DHE has worked so well for me in the past that I was taught to administer it to myself under strict care. Now I seem to get the same effect with busting.

Jim I have been there a few times and am praying for you. Are you getting a steroid taper along with the DHE taper?

He got 6 uninterrupted hours of sleep last night!! :o

Had a bit of a CH while we were talking...but it wasn't too bad. His attitude is great..and he has alot of confidence in the DHE treatment.

The doc told him he has to stay till Saturday.....but he was ok with that....as long as the doc gave him a "pass" to go outside and smoke...LOL [smiley=laugh.gif]

He sends his love and thanks for everyone's thoughts and generosity.

I would like to request, instead of any of you sending me money, please hit the PAYPAL button at the bottom of this page...and donate that money to DJ & CH.com. I didn't discuss this with DJ...it's just my personal preference. It doesn't matter how large or small the donation...

It's times like this...that we really see what great things have come from having this site. There really are some here...who see this site as a lifeline.

I'd sure like to know how you got through Jean.

I have been calling the hospital room for 2 days now and cannot get through to him, just a recording saying that the patient cannot answer the phone. :-/ I do however hope that this might mean that he's getting some rest.

I just talked to Kathy.

They've given Jim some meds that knock him out...He's not getting much relief from the pain. Plus the steroids have him climbing the walls.

To everyone that has posted there prayers and support to Jim.
Thank you soo much,you have no idea how much it means to this family and Jim.
He loves all of you guys with all his heart, this place is his joy everyday to talk to you wonderful people.
The DHE treatments dont seem to be working,
so we sat down with the surgeons today and have decided to go with the surgery.

Ill post another bulletin tomorrow to let you all know how hes doing and what the surgeons say.
Again thank you soo much for your support.
theres no way to express how much it means to our family and Jim.

PS.Thank you soo much for the balloons and gift baskets.Jim was beyond thrilled.

danm...the DHE isn't working ? that sucks! The steroids aren't helping either? that really sucks!

Don't give up! There's still more to try!

plz read my tag line. Histamine is worth a shot before you try a surgery that may have serious side effects. Histamine is easy to do with little or no side effects and it may provide 'striking results'.

Jean or anyone who might speak to Jim,

PLEASE SUGGEST an occipital nerve block. Very low risk and could give him at least a few days relief. It is a simple injection in the back of the head/neck. It may feel a bit numb but it rid me for a few days/week before they came back.

It wont kick a cycle BUT it can be repeated, if it works without the risks surgery has.

Also, I do offer skype conference again if Jim would like to talk to anyone without any cost. Most countries are only $.03 per minute that i would gladly pay if Jim has anyone he would like to talk to. Calls inside the US or to anyone overseas with Skype are free.

Is the ON in ONSi Occipital Nerve?

Have they tried the occipital nerve block first? It is cheap and easy and could give a week or more PF before cutting into him.

I can't speak for Jim and his family, but the surgery they were discussing is not going to cut any nerves and it doesn't have anything to do with brain surgery. The way Jim descibed it to me was its kind of like a pace maker, it uses low voltage to stop the clusters. If it fails to work then they remove it and he's no different than he was before.

I'm not a surgery advocate, but if this is this kids only options right now than fuck it, do it. We all have our breaking points folks, and he's at his right now, I support any decision he makes 150%, as should we all. He's in good hands folks, those docs aren't rookies at the Mayo.

ONSI means Occipital Nerve Stimulator Implant. It's an invasive procedure. An Occipital nerve block is usually done first though.

I had the first bi-lateral OSNI done @ MHNI in March of 04'. It was a 7 day trial. It didn't help and was very weird and uncomfortable. I was pretty sore for a few days and had to wear a soft collar the entire time. :-/ It would've been worth it if it would've worked. :-/

Whatever your decision may be, my very best wishes to you, Jim--I'm hopeful that you'll find a resolution to your pain.

I've often wondered what would become of me if my attacks were intractable, unbearable, and unliveable. I've never found an answer to this question--what would I do if I were faced with a demon that never left? The only thing that has made mine bearable is knowing that they will run their course and will go away. What if I could see no light at the end of the tunnel?

I don't know very much about the surgical options that you're facing, Jim, but I know that you've considered them long and hard. I'm also confident that you're in the best of hands.

Jim's looked this thing in the eye--he's been faced with my worst nightmare--and still, he's maintained his courage, his humor, his concern for others. Could I do the same? I don't know.

I believe that Jim's an exceptional man--and an exceptionally courageous one.

Whatever your decision may be, Jim, I'm certain that it will be wisely considered. I'm proud to know you.
