I walked out of my apartment today at about 3pm and there are cops EVERYWHERE! I walk down to the sidewalk and notice the road is taped off, and Popdock - the Phillips 66 across the street ( I affectionately renamed it Mohammed-mart when it was bought out from the owner of 30 years by middle easterners) is crawling with cops, media and of course the hoosiers from the projects.

Two men entered the store and tried to rob it. Tony, the owner (who is a really cool dude) tried to botch the robbery and wound up getting shot in the leg. The two then fled somewhere here on this block and that's the last I've heard. I had to catch the 5 O'Clock news to get the lowdown, as the rumour-mill in this town is infuckingsane! I first heard that Radioshack, Statefarm Insurance and then Popdocks had been robbed. Not true. Only popdock's was robbed. You gotta love rumour-mills though. It reminds me of a great movie line (since that was a subject here recently)

"Johnny, theres a message for you through the grapevine"

"What is it"

"Johnny and the Brothers are playing stomping at the savoy tomorrow night."

"What? Vermin's gonna try and kill my brother tomorrow night at the savoy?"

"That's not what I said"

"Yeah. But I know how this grapevine works." (Name that movie.)

When I heard Tony got shot, I freaked! I can go in there with the intention of being in and out in a minute, and wind up talking to him for about 10-15 minutes. He is a good guy, and I think maybe he thought the robbery was a joke at first and when he realized it wasn't, reacted and got shot. I'm just glad he'll be okay, but man I want the fuck out of here. This is not the same Granite City I grew up in. I was just jumped here back in July and was able to kick ass. Right now, my ass is already kicked without anyones help.

I'll take that back. When I was a kid my mom worked at the convenience store across from our house and my mom got robbed at gunpoint. I was maybe 10 or 11. That fucked me up bigtime as a kid, because I knew the younger brother of the guy who did it.

Good ole Granite Shitty. :-/
