Title: Insurence rippoff scam ??
Post by cootie on Sep 21st, 2006, 8:03pm
Just wonder'd if any of ya have heard of this...Brad's mom is on medicade (she is handicapped from a stroke and in a wheelchair....has a new power wheelchair medicade helped with).......she got some sort of notice her ins was not payin on the chair and doc visits or meds and stuff 'whatever'.......she found out she was signed up for sum sort of wierd new isn policy they NEVER signed up for called 'Sunshine Golden Years Ins'....which cuz of that stopped medicade. The nurse told her this has been happening alot lately and alot of the elderly people can NOT get back on medicade cuz they say they switched and can never switch back now to medicade. But....none of them ever switched and they are havein a hell of a time proven it. Hopein it gets resolved for Brad's mom cuz she is screw'd without it !!!!! How can you get signed up for sumthing you NEVER signed up for or even thought about ? Anyone know anything ? His sister has spent the week tryin to straighten it out and HOPEIN she can. Thanks......screw'd blued and OLD nitemare Pam

PS: No one even has a policy thing sent or nothing so they don't know about it till medicade refuses to continue for them. Yipes !!! This is one big SCAM world anymore !!!!!

How about having golden years show a contract with her John Hancock on it....if she didnt sign anything there should be no problem.

Pam,

If you can, find out the EXACT name of the insurance for which she supposedly "signed up".  I will do some investigating and give you some contact information if at all possible.

A good place to start would be with the Insurance Commisioner in the state where she resides.  They can tell you how to file a formal complaint against the company.

You should also file a WRITTEN complaint with Medicare.

Fraud is fraud and it really chaps my hide when people take advantage of our elderly population. (Yes, Jimi..even you :P )

Get the information on the exact name of the company and PM me your number.  I'm all over this one.

I'll have Brad call his sister tomarrow (she cares for his mom at his mom's home) and see what exact info with the ins name I can get DD.......they never DID sign up and it does sound clear and simple but it's NOT.......sumhow it gets out to medicade and then they drop you........don't see how it can work anyone know what to do thru a co they know nothing about or signed up for or have a policy for or even be legal. But it IS happening......and the nurses did tell his sister alot of eldery have got kicked off medicade this way and sum can't fight there way back. Guess medicade hasn't been paying for a while now since this other policy kicked in and they just found out when they got BILLS that no longer are bein paid !! Brad is pretty upset about it but 'thought' his sister was gettin sumwhere with all the calls she made this week. HOPEING at least cuz he is real worried......this is just an aweful thing to happen esp if you don't have sumone to FIGHT for you to get things resolved or don't know how. Sumthin to look out for Pam

jonny.....sumhow when they researched the reason for no payment on her wheelchair and whatever thru phone calls they found out about this new ins co they were now on with they NEVER changed to. Freaky !!!!! And the nurse said this SAME co has been the reason alot of people got booted that never signed up or switched. I don't understand it all myelf........

Get your sister to call your state representative and talk to them too.  If it's happening too quite a few elders and they can't get back on Medicaid, something needs to be done.  Also, have someone contact the BBB and file a complaint.

I hope it is a scam...when Medicare reform went into effect many people who were on both Medicare and Medicaide were automatically signed up for a Medicare supplemental policy by their state-saves the taxpayers bucks, ya know.  Anyway, I'm thinking this could be the case.  Hope not-it was definitely one of the loopholes in the Medicare reform package.

Coots-

Contact your States Attorney General and see if they are aware of this.  If they aren't they should be.
