I updated as a reply further down the page.

Prayers and vibes and what you all do best is what we need. My 8yr old niece (whom I love like my own and whom spends weeks at a time with my family) is getting rushed to a wonderful hospital right now. A simple "flu" or virus has turned into an infection surrounding her cerebral fluid. I'm a wreck. I'm worried sick, esp not knowing, not being her parent I'm not exactly in a position to sit by her side (her mother is not in the picture but her dad is with her) so I feel so awful just waiting to hear ... I'm just dying to go be by her side, but I am forced to wait for the phone to ring to get updates. Please please send those wonderful vibes and prayers for her that this can be cleared up with simple medications and she can go back to being a healthy child.

Also my hubby's uncle died of a long fight with cancer yesterday. He was a very special Uncle, god rest his soul, he's no longer in pain. It's the one's that love him are suffering now.

Hopefully they will be able to get her fixed up nicely once they can get the pressure off and absess drained......not real familialr with that type but knowing how most absess's work once drained it is amost instant releif and healing. Prolly need some antibiotics of course but hopein they can get it drained fast and no complications and everything heal up safe and sound. Back to the 'NORMAL' girl Pam

Sorry it's taken me so long to update all of you. First of all thanks so very much for all the prayers and vibes. They mean alot!

Well I spent her first night in the hospital by her side all night. She is unable to walk, or urinate, and has times of confusion. Her speech is better. The poor thing had to have a catheter put in and it took 3 tries to find the proper size. I had to hold her still and listen to her scream while they did it. I can not describe how heartbreaking that was. Just her looking me in the eyes with a look like I was betraying her. BUT she is doing a bit better now. She was up in a wheel chair yesterday and got to paint a bird house. So that is promising. They have started her on IV antibiotics and steroids and will give that 5 days to see if that works. The doctor told me that most likely after 2 YEARS we won't see any lasting side affects. 2 YEARS?!!? I am hoping to go back up to the hospital again today . I have so many questions, does that mean she will be in a wheel chair for up to 2 years? etc etc.

Her dad has really dissapointed me. She cried for him that first night, but he "needed" to go home and get some sleep. He spent all of one night (the second night) and she has been alone since then. We called her yesterday and Antoinette talked to her on the phone and told her to hurry up and get better so they can play again. I am at the mercy of others to get to the hospital cause I don't have a decent vehicle that can make the 1hr ride. This poor girl has been through so much in her short life, she was taken from her mom cause her mom couldn't get clean of drugs. She took care of her younger siblings while her mom was busy getting high. Then she starts fresh with her dad this past year, her dad gets a nasty divorce from his wife (different woman than her mother) shortly after she moves in with him. Non stop turmoil for her.

I will keep you all updated as I find out more about her condition.

Poor little girl--my heart goes out to her. I hope things improve soon. Kids are so resilient--perhaps she'll get better more quickly than expected.

I am so sorry to read this. I feel very selfish coming here and complaining about my week after reading this. Nothing is more horrifying to me than seeing a child go through things like this.

All my prayers go out to you and your family.

I only wish I still lived in Massachusetts so I could drive you to the hospital when you need. I have had a catheter before and I told my wife if they tried it again, they would have to tie me down to the bed.

Anyway, sounds like the long term prognosis is good, and that is very important. Keep us up to date.

Big hugs to you to Taraann. I can only imagine how heartbreaking that must have been for you to go through with her, but thank god that you WERE there to be with her at that crucial moment. I pray God gives you strength, wisdom, endurance, and some PF time to help get you trhough all of this.

That poor girl!!! My prayers for her are on their way and I am so hoping for a very quick recovery and that the "adults" get their shit straightened out mighty quick!
