My son is do to have some dental work and I am worried that this could trigger an attack. Has that ever happened to anyone? Am I worrying for no reason? Any thing I can do prior? Thanks again for your help.

Have him request an anesthetic that does not contain epinepherine.

My dentist knows that I have chronic CH; I don't know what kind of anesthetic he uses on me (injections), but it numbs my whole face and as long as it lasts I have no CH pain at all-almost makes me want to go every week ;;D! Make sure that your son tell his dentist about the CH.

I've had a lot of work done without getting any hits. The one thing that bothered me was getting a bonding done close to the gumline. There is a concentrated chemical smell to the veneer which might get whiffed up your nose as it's applied, it began to trigger me once.
Nothing else ever bothered me though.

ask for carbocaine( no epi), stay away from laughing gas he can ask for them to run the O2 trom their tank, while he is in the chair they wont' have a non-rebreaher but it can't hurt. If noise is a prob bring your cd player or MP3 with you it will not be in the way. I always asked what they are playing and have the good stuff turned up so I can hear it while Iam working on them LOL

Well...

let's see now, once I got hit after I got back from dentist.

The second time (wisdom tooth removal) the pain and ch pain went together; when I took a painkiller to the tooth, ch went (for some reason) away as well.

On the third time, this spring, when my dentist did an error and I had to go back, ch made a comeback after being in remission for 11 months.

So, I'm not looking forward to visiting a dentist! :(

I hope that things will be different for your son. My dentist does know about my ch.

I can't say if a dentist visit will bring on an attack, but I can POSITIVELY state that a series of attackes can and DID send me to the dentist for tooth repair in March. Another very bad attack broke the same tooth AGAIN just a couple weeks ago.

Nov. 1st I get insurance. Yee Hawww!

Thank you for your replys. Dawson is only seven and has had only one CH episode back in December/January. His first. His Dr. got to see one first hand and knew right away what it was. He sent us right off to a neuro who confirmed. I am not ready for him to have to go through that again. We just moved accross country and the Navy has yet to set us up with a new Dr. I will have to have stuff prepared just in case. Thanks again for all of your input.

A few weeks ago I had the root to one of my crowns split in half due to shoddy dentistry by the quack who did the job.

I was 'supposed' to keep the tooth in place with this stuff called "Temparin" until my appointment a month later, but it started hurting and popping in the gum. I set up an emergency appointment on a Tuesday. That morning, I awoke to what they call a "Silent Attack" (or what I call "Phantom Cluster" with almost all of the symptoms (stuffy nose running, eye droop, pressure, etc.) without pain. I got the root removed that afternoon and that Thursday evening got hit with a CH and went back into cycle. I'm not really sure the tooth had anything to do with it though, as it just may have been a coincidence. We had alot of high pressure over us after some massive storms last month, and I am thinking that might be what threw me into cycle.

My heart goes out to you and Dawson, and I will say a prayer that things go well.

I have had root canals and fillings and had no problems with normal novicane.

Well an abcess and/or toothache will set off an attack for me. BUT I had ONE of my offending teeth yanked a few weeks ago and it did not set off an attack.... So thats my story but of course everyone is different

Dental work is almost certainly not going to bring on an attack. I've had work done during a cycle or two...fillings, root canals and even an extraction without making things worse.
