Title: We are all wrong
Post by alchemy on Aug 28th, 2006, 9:03pm
According to a nuero I saw today. I was informed by this "expert" that you cannot have more than 2 hits a day with clusters. You cannot use trex inj more than 4 times a month. Anyone who prescripes over 240mg of verap. is breaking the law. His "cure" is to give regular shots to block the occipital nerve. The Mayo clinic is basically a place of overcharged quacks. I'm pretty bummed cause we have very little money and I had to pay to see this guy. Sept 6 I go to see the quacks at the Mayo. It just seems a waste because this guy here said were all wrong.

He's a pompous windbag who is operating in 1960's medicine. You definitely need a new doc, good luck, there are good ones out there.

YOU are the consumer ...you are in charge of you, not them... you are paying !!! DO NOT leave the next appt unless you are happy with your treatment. Let Cathy have at em ;;D

if you need my help. let me know.

Neuro's who THINK they know what CH is piss me off, and after enough of the shit, I don't hold back anymore.

If a neuro told me that CH doesn't go beyond 2 hits a day, I would have told him (or her) that they need to go back to fucking medical school or buy a clue!

I once had a nutjob at SLU that I asked, "Before I walk out that door and never come back, give me one good reason why I should come back."

She responded, "Well, you can't treat yourself."

I just looked at her pissed off and said, "And apparently neither can YOU! Good day!" I never went back. Sean is right. If you were a newbie to CH, you'd think you have really, really, really, really, really bad migraines or really, really, really extremely terrible sinus headaches!  ::)

Peace,
Carl D

Did his diploma say neurology or astrology?

Jim's horoscope:  You will seek the services of a sage but there are other spices in the rack.

Don't sound this will go well with this one but if you can get 240 verap, a thirty day supply could be used up at a faster rate if needed until the Mayo appointment for now, and get whatever trex he will prescribe, try to tide yourself over until you can get elsewhere, if you need to.

It's a damn shame when we pin our hopes for relief on a neuro appointment and this happens because of what they don't know.

Bummer that you had to waste your time and money but keep the faith bro! I assume you are going to the Mayo out by you. I went to the MN. version back in 87 and it was the docs there that were able to actually confirm the diagnosis of cluster/migraine variant, not an easy task as i don't fit some of the classic models such as time of attacks and mostly nighttime/sleep interrupters. Dr. Joel Saper hadn't been able to figure it out but after Mayo where they were very thorough he conceded the point based mostly on the fact that I have an unnaturally slow heart rhythm and sleep study at Mayo confirmed that I may often be more relaxed when awake than when sleeping.

Something the aliens did to me with that anal probe thing i think ;;D

Seriously Jim good luck and hang tight and you will find the right Doc!.....Tim

My new neuro is like that I hate him... he treats me like a drug addict.  He says alot of hmmmmms and asks me how many times I take Imatrex like there is a perfect amount of times to use it.... Dave has a pretty good neuro.  Our old one was the best...  ree

Wrong? There is a long chance that I might, on occasion be mistaken. But according to the law of the sea, and tradition. I am never wrong.

That just really pisses me off !!! I could just 'kiss my doctors feet' he has been so cool to us and he is treating me for my back and joint crap and has talked to Brad about ch and meds ect. He is a interalist doctor.....we LOVED the last two that quit....one took an out of state job back in his hometown and other took a hospital position. I just WORRY endless about ever haveing to find anouther doc cuz of what you had to go thru. Seems clinics wanna tell you THERE plan and show ya the door. Ya don't go to discuss what works for you or mite work.....that's not part of THERE plan. Yet they charge so freakin much !!!! Got a friend that had an accident and cracked a vbertibra about 2 months or so ago and it's basically just the wing bone part. He said (the friend) he couldn't even see it on the exray or find what they are seeing as BROKE and it's been exray'd alot since the accident. And he has NO PAIN !!!. But now his doc said he is goin to schedule surgery to take a piece of bone off his hip to glue it to the vertibra where the broke tip end part is that is healing uneven and probly remove the little broke part. (the part that sticks out and it is located between his shoulders are) WTF.....they even told him "with or without" surgery he will still have alot of problems later on
(trust me I know all about that) and the surgery will cause it's own set of problems when he gets older !? So..........I don't get it.......why go thru with it then ? But guess the friend is goin to do it since the doc is gun-ho to do it.....Guess doctor boy needs a new yaught or Bahama's vacation Pam  >:(

Sorry I got carried away again..............seems sum docs make us there SCAM........that is just WRONG......

With docs like him, it's no wonder folks have a hard time gettin' enough meds for a month.

I sure hope you find a good doc.  It's a shame you had to pay this one only to find out he's a bit inadequate.  ::)
Lots of luck, sweetie    :-*    Hang in there  [smiley=smokin.gif]

Love 'ya,
Jean

I'm so sorry that you met one of those neuros... But I must agree with Sean & co; it's great that you also know so much about ch that you know not to trust this neuro. I hope that the next one will be much, much better.

I feel so sorry for the newbies who go to meet that neuro and have no idea! But that is why we need OUCH and ch.com.

As you all know, I am a newbie and my appointment to see the neuro is 8th of Sept. After reading this thread I am wondering how I am going to be able to tell the difference of a good neuro and a crap one?

I dont want to be fobbed off, I want to be taken seriously, as you all can imagine.
But as a newbie like you've all mentioned how on earth am I going to tell??  :-/

A good Doc. will listen and work WITH you to solve the problem.

Jim, sorry you had to waste your time Bro.  Hmmm, trex only 4x a month?  Sounds like he got his Med. training from my insurance Co.  LOL.  Good luck on the 6th!

This guy is obviously full of crap. I'm sorry you had to go through it, Jim. Another thing, they can see all the docs you've seen in the past, and like most of us, it's taken us awhile to find one who understands, and wants to help. But, they may see this as doctor shopping.

Mine appeared this way, not only due to incompetent docs, but do to my insurance changing so many times.

Prepare for the next one and lose this guy. He's not worth it.

My neuro is just the opposite - a headache specialist. The problem I have is that he writes scripts for drugs at the proper amount, but then my insurance company will only cover so much. And they're guided by their own staff of "experts."

At some point, we all get screwed by docs that don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.

The doc's a dick.
Maybe we should start a list of docs that daignose like this, sorted by state, so that maybe someone will save themselves the trouble of going to one. One trip saved will make the whole thing worth it.

Sounds like that neuro is a bit neurotic and worried about getting sued. :-/  He should'nt even be a doctor with that sort of thinking!

Anyhoo, what about CB Jim??

Idiot beyond belief.

At least my neurologist once asked what was the latest information because he knows I  deal with a lot of clusterheads. He admits that we no doubt know more than he about latest treatment anyway.

Too bad the little twerp can't discuss his patients. I did distribute some brochures though. Maybe he'll use them.

I should get more for our hospital.....I have to say that so far they seem to know that CH is different.

Put this guy on ice. He's an idiot.

Charlie

I think that a doctor who is that irresponsible and uninformed needs a sharp kick in the ass. The legal way to give him one is to go here and file a complaint:

http://www.azmdboard.org/

I'm not saying that to be hardnosed about it, but because everything he told you was completely wrong... my God, what if some poor soul decides they can't take the pain anymore after visiting a quack like that? The guy needs to update his education or retire, a complaint like that might make him think about it.
