Title: What's your feel good meal?
Post by Melissa on Aug 26th, 2006, 1:52pm
I have a large pot of Mel's LC Beanless Chili simmering on the stove (I of course had to have a bowl right away) since the weather has been fall'ish more thann anything right now.  I made it with pork instead of hamburger this time and I hope Jesse can digest it better since he has to avoid chewing as much as possible. :-/

So, what meal makes you "feel good", and don't get preverted on me! :P

I immediately thought of chili with a side of corn bread...we can trade recipes someday.  Otherwise, one of my favorites is Mediterranian shrimp pasta--made with great, big shrimp and feta cheese in  a marinara sauce.

CAJUN SEAFOOD PIZZA! (my own creation)

1 DiGiornio Supreme (or frozen pizza of choice)

add:
frozen baby shrimp, rinsed
baked scallops, sliced
imitation (or real) crab meat
diced clam
sliced red onion
1/4 small Habernero, crushed
sprinkle with cayenne pepper, Oregano, cajun spice, and garlic powder

smother with Mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan and lots of Provel cheese and bake.

God, typing that all out just made my stomache GROWL! LOL.

2nd would be my secret recipe Spaghetti which takes me about 8 hours to make, and I always make way too much so give alot away or freeze it. I discovered said recipe by accident 10 years ago when I started to make something else altogether, and didn't have the stuff to make it so just said screw it and switched it to spaghetti. I tweaked it over time and perfected it. It's been a long time since I've made it too so...

Peace,
Carl D

1. My wife's meatloaf.

2. Real mashed potatoes.

3. Gravy made from the pan drippings of the meatloaf.

4. Garden-grown green beans with butter.

5. Dessert doesn't matter much - I haven't met too many desserts that I didn't get along with.

6. Another log on the fire.

7. Nap on the couch.

Thanks, Scott. I love it, too!

While I can't say I hope the Mets win the NL East (it's become kind of a foregone conclusion to me - they're awesome this year), I, too, hope the Brewers win the wild card. It's been too long for Milwaukee!

forget the beer (ewww!) and the sticky toffee pudding (like making it but prefer treacle sponge!)
Thats a lovely dinner though Yorky, especially by the sea (you can show me where there's a good chippy when I'm up!)

my favourite comfort food is faggots and mushy peas with mint sauce followed by spotted dick and custard, now that is bliss!

My Aunt Anne's sauce, but alas.....

I'll have to settle for a Rigolis custom sub and or deadly pizza. It's a Mecca here.

Turkey soup would hit the spot at the moment.

Gotta go with vietvet2tours on the grilled rib steaks.  (Medium Rare.)

Add a great fat Idaho russet burbank baker with sour cream, chives, and real butter, and a mixed baby-lettuce salad with vinegarette dressing, sprinkled with gorgonzola cheese and fresh-ground black pepper.

Top it with a decent Australian Shiraz or a cabernet, and...

Yum.

Had it tonight, as a matter of fact.

See how you all are an inspiration?

Best,

George

Well, Jesse liked my chili and I didn't make it too hot for him like I've done before (he has problems with that, LOL). ;;D  I had also put some apples, sugar and apple pie spice into a small crockpot and cooked that for 1/2 the day so he'd have something nice to put over his ice cream after dinner.

Tonight I'm at a loss as to what to make, but everyone's posts will probably inspire me around noon. ;)

BTW, I miss my moms beef roast with pan gravy, baby red potatoes dipped in melted butter, corn on the cob & either apple crisp or blueberry cobbler for dessert.  YUM!

Back in UK, my feel good food was Batchelor's Southern Fried flavoured noodles and cheddar flavoured potato mash.

Back in here it's tuna pasta with herb sauce, spaghetti bolognese (or, spagetti with mince meat), asparagus/ cauliflower with herb sauce or pizza (ham pine apple/mozzarella/tuna/pepperoni...). It depends on the day. 8)

Gramma's Saurbrotten ( we just called it sour meat) , red cabbage and potato balls.

Nothing will ever match it in this life.

Ain't that the truth!  My Grandma tought me how to cook by taste.  Many of the meals she made I, for the life of me, can't duplicate though.  The taste isn't the same.  Her recipie box is a cherished remembrance of her.  Her quiet strength and patience is missed.

Yep, sauerbraten is another classic feel-good meal. And you can't serve it with anything but red cabbage and spaetzle (dumplings). It takes 3 days start to finish to make sauerbraten correctly because it has to marinate that long or the meat won't fall apart like it does. The icing on the cake is thickening the gravy with ginger snaps. Mmmm Mmmmm.

If she made this for you, she earned her place in heaven. ;;D

2.  Fresh green beans and new potatoes cooked with a meaty ham bone.

3.  My mother-in-law's homemade beef soup.

4.  My oven roast with lots of potatoes, onions and celery.

What time should I be there for dinner?  This also a big favorite of mine, except I like steamed oysters.

Also, in winter, a huge pot of homemade ham and bean soup, with hot johnny cake fresh out of the oven.

And I'd throw another log on the fire too, except in my house it's unfortunately gas.  Not quite the same, but when we bought our little "fixer upper" (fondly known as the trash mansion), the fireplace and chimney were completely burned out and could not be used.  So, we sealed it and put in the gas logs.  Better than nuttin!

In a Restaurant, Rack of Lamb, Rare

To make myself, I stuff Game Hens with a rice/citrus/apple mixture. Grill those basting with a slightly smoky butter with chives.(yes you have to smoke your own butter as no one seems to make it.

For apps, mini Blue crab cakes (all lump) just enough Dukes & crumbs to hold them together.

We start with a baby spinach Cobb salad with a warm bacon, corn & bleu cheese dressing.

Cream of roasted red bell pepper soup,(no cheating on this you must use real cream and roast your own peppers, you can't use the jar crap)

Game hens are the entree served with asparagus grilled with those real skinny french (fresh) green beans in a red wine butter mix.

Home made Creme Brule

Finish with Strawberries dipped in melted Ghirardelli Chocolate, some white some brown.

I make this once a year on or around Valentines Day, and your guests need to be ready to leave or retire to their own space following the Port and taking some berries with them cuz you are gonna get lucky after this one ;)

....Tim
