 Ok, I have been detoxed in preparation for yesterdays liver biopsy so I no longer smoke, drink, use pain meds, shoot heroin, snuff inhalants, or sleep with porn stars.

The porn stars were hard but they even made me give up my Red Bull and that is asking just a bit much.

 For those of you that don't know or forgot (after all you are a bunch of clusterf#@ks), I am very allergic to trex, relpax, etc. so at least I did not have to lose a best friend cuz I never had one.

 The one drug that my neuro and hematologist/hep guy did prescribe for me to use in emergency cases (only) was oddly enough Stadol N/S a drug that I have very little experiance with because of the ease of overdose. I mean when I am getting slammed by an 8 or up I have been known to forget everything, like did I take my verap? what day of the week is it, I can check the dispenser and see if i did, oh shit I think I might have doubled up but better take a dose anyway cuz I don't actually remember...oh crap....well you get the picture, so I have been scared of stadol because it seems to me that if you screw up on that stuff you may just not wake up.

 Yesterday was the big day. I show up for the biopsy at 6:45 a very unusual hour for me to be concious and as the tech is preping me she comments that my BP is a little high but it should not be a problem because the cocktail they are going to use on me will bring it back down. Then she notices that my heart rate is at 45 and seems to be very concerned about that as that is about 20 points under my norm. After some discussion between the anesthesiologist and the surgeon they decide to go ahead with the test.

 The radiologist points out that from the only good point of entry that she can find the doc needs to make the stick just as i am begining to inhale, too early and they miss the lobe they are aiming for and too late and they get lung.  I tell the doc that I am willing to have him take the sample with just a local so I can control my breathing and they say no way! not for this one.

 The next thing I know I wake up and ask when they are going to start and the nurse says it was done a couple hours ago. Everything went fine , there was just a slight problem with the timing but they didn't get lung so I should have nothing to worry about.....but they want me to stay off all meds and stay on what amounts to bed rest for the next week and a half until my follow up.

 So everything is cool except I got slammed last night, another is ramping up now and I don't dare use Valium, ambien, percodan, or any of my other little helpers including nsaids for my back.

 I'm past the O2 point and......ain't life a scream >:(

Sorry I haven't been around to meet newbies or support oldies much but I will make it up to you.

Funny thing is I woke up yesterday and told Linda I had a funny feeling about this and for just a moment I thought .......

As for your visits here... we'll pick up the slack. It wont be the same without you, but you need to get better, so, we'll do our best......

In lieu of your wonderful "Good Nights"..I will be glad to post a "Lights Out, Everbody Quiet!" sign for you....then, wish you sweet dreams....PF, of course.

I'm glad you're back, even if you do have to take it easy. Why won't they let you have your meds back now you're done with the biopsy? That seems awfully harsh to me hon

It is not a triptan and soe of us have found it to work just as quick.

Damn bro. Sorry to hear your getting slammed without being able to use arsenal. I hope everything with the biopsy comes out okay. Just hang in there, even though you're not able to use your usual meds.
The bright side could be that, when you do go back on meds they will be twice as effective as before. Will keep you in my prayers man.

Tim---you're going to be just fine ! Sleeping with porn stars I can give up----smoking and drinking is impossible.I'd have an emotional breakdown with that one.

Good luck gettin thru everything 'cold turkey' and hope the tests come out ok and you can get back to a routine with things that HELP........seems ya tend to get less tolerant of pain in time or have gone thru pain toooo long.....esp when you have had sumthin that helps and have to go without it.....older ya get the harder shit hurts Pam

One thing I came across concerning metabolizing drugs in the liver is from one of four evolutionary changes we are going through presently.
 In our hunting and gathering days before 15,000 years ago, we had a gene that was used by the liver to detoxify the natural poisons with which wild plants defend themselves.  It was vital for survival but when a mutated gene cropped up, it stayed because we didn't need the original one, which survives but lost it's function on evolution's use-it-or-lose-it principal, like our olfactory genes of which 60% are inactive now.
 People are losing genes that detoxify natural plant poisons and the enzymes made by these genes are no longer needed for their natural purpose.  They have now though assumed an unexpected role in modern society -- that of metabolizing medicinal drugs but the unnatural stimulus does not occur often enough and many of the genes are being lost through disuse.
 This process explains much of the variability in the response to drugs, including why some people have severe side effects or require different doses.  People who have lost the gene that breaks down a certain drug will maintain a high dose of it in their bloodstream, whereas those who still retain the gene will clear the drug rapidly. *
 It may be far out there but good to keep in mind when it comes to livers and medicinal treatment.

Seriously - stay stong, use ice, water, anything you can for the CH - and tough it out.  Remember - THE HIT WILL END!

 Thanks everyone for your vibes. I am going to try to stay detoxed until after I see the Pain Management guy on the 11th so that i will have some freedom as to accept or decline what he suggests. it is just not easy at the moment and what little clock i had is now completely haywire.

btw; kev, i have atypical reactions to most drugs, you callin me a caveman or something ;)....interesting

and sandy, screw doctors orders!!! i went out yesterday with a kip 8 and a good buddy and shot up two boxes of clay pidgeons with a 12 guage pump. if you try real hard to visualize the clay as being the beast flying out of your cheek it feels real good when you hit one!!!! better have a real trusting friend though.....
