Title: Re: See what you miss... Post by Gator on Aug 24th, 2006, 11:01pm Of course it wasn't all fun and games. There was a serious side as well. Those who wished to do so participated in the Zomig NS study right there at the convention. IMPORTANT: Anyone who participated in the Zomig NS Trial at the convention and did not get their journals turned in, please send those to Lori Choyce ASAP. Lori Choyce (NECH) announced a new clinical trial coming out around the end of the year, studying Civimide as a preventative.: http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/choyce-winstoncivimide.wmv Supporters are probably the most important people in ours lives. Yes we see the doctors once in a while and get this or that med, but our supporters keep us going. They advocate for us with our doctors, console us when we are feeling down and kick us in the ass when we start letting things get to us. At the beginning of Svenn's presentation, he had us do something we should be doing every day. http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/applaudesupporters.wmv He also challenged us to come up with ways to increase awareness of ch - see CH Contest Thread. Dr. Sewell drove home the point that we must actively advocate for ourselves in order with this little exercise: http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/sewell-prevalenceofch.wmv He showed us that one or two people CAN make a difference: http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/sewell-videohelps.wmv Dr. Sewell kind of stepped in it a little bit when talking about the age of CH onset: http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/sewell-stepsinit.wmv Dr. Sewell praised the creation of C.H.A.T.S. He stated there was no way he could have gotten a grant to have the software written, but because of the activism by OUCH members, there was a useful tool for collecting data. It has already been approved for use by the Harvard IRB and should be put into use shortly. Dr. Sewell made the following statement: http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/sewell-svenn&dan.wmv Way to go guys! Finally, Dr. Sewell announced that because of pilot data provided by Clusterbusters and members of the cluster headache community, he would be submitting grant paperwork for a Kudzu trial this October. |

Title: Re: See what you miss... Post by Gator on Aug 25th, 2006, 2:22am continued... Dr Halpern spoke mainly of the issues involved in getting the psilocybin study going. He also spoke to some of the legal issues, such as seeds: http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/halpern-seedsillegal.wmv Dr. Halpern explains that this type of research could be dangerous to a research career. http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/halpern-waryoflsd.wmv Glad you all are enjoying a short peek into a convention. For those who have never attended, you really have to go to Richmond next year. There's more from this convention, but I'm tired and it's almost time for my nightly visit from you know who. I can feel him creeping about already. Will try to finish up tomorrow. |

Title: Re: See what you miss... Post by Gator on Aug 25th, 2006, 2:52pm Dr Halpern describes the cost of getting this study through drug development http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/halpern-cost.wmv Dr Halpern explains that the study will likely get no federal money http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/halpern-nofedmoney.wmv Feeling at first meeting with CB. http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/halpern-can'tdothat.wmv Why continue? http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/halpern-2chsuicides.wmv We have a friend? in the DEA & FDA.. http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/halpern-friendlydeafda.wmv Basically, Dr. Halpern says there are many legal, political and financial hurdles in the way and it will take more time than we think it should, but there is a possibility that this study could take place and lead to an effective treatment for CH. While we are waiting, advocacy groups need to keep it in the public eye and keep the focus on the medical aspects of psilocybin/lsd. Dr. Sewell re-interjects a note of hope http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/sewell-halpern-hope.wmv So what should OUCH's position be on psilocybin/lsd? http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/sewell-halpern-ouchposition.wmv The underlying theme of all speakers during the convention was advocacy. We need to educate the public and those doctors who are unfamiliar with CH. We need to be more active in getting CH in the public eye (so to speak) and in raising money for research. |

Title: Re: See what you miss - MilCon Video Clips Post by Sandy_C on Aug 25th, 2006, 5:23pm Thank you, Mike. Great videos. Please note, on your second video of the badger band, the tuba player was facing Dr. Sewell, and telling him to take his necktie off. Dr. Sewell said thanks, but no. ;;D And, you do realize that those of us, who shall remain nameless, who were shown doing the chicken dance, will do very nasty things (castration comes to mind) for showing Sandy |

Title: Re: See what you miss - MilCon Video Clips Post by Gator on Aug 26th, 2006, 10:38am Next came the entertainment and it definitely was entertaining. In the "game show," contestants Donna, Blake and Helen were blindfolded and had to ask yes or no questions to guess the name, occupation and whether the subjects - Jasmyn & Bob (BlueMeanie) - were episodic or chronic. Helen asked Jas if she was shorter than her. Donna replied, "No one's shorter than you." Helen replied...well, watch her reply http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/game-helen-bird.wmv Helen revels in asking a good question... http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/helen-ahah.wmv Donna congratulates Helen on her correct guess resulting in the famous "High Five" http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/1sthighfive.wmv Blake couldn't wait to ask a question.. http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/blake-gotagoodone.wmv The crowd gets involved... http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/highfive.wmv Blake doesn't like being told no... http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/blake-tiredofhim.wmv Donna asks, "Is this my water?" uh, Donna...he's blindfolded... http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/isthismywater.wmv The game ended with everyone giving a high five http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings/milcon06/allhighfive.wmv Just gotta do this. As it was, it still took me, what, three days? I'm cursed with that crappy dialup, too. Cootie, I was really hoping to see you and Brad and all the others who didn't make it this year. Thank you all for the kind words here, in PM's and in e-mail. I've laughed, cried and learned while editing the videos and creating the posts in this thread. You have all given me so much support in my times of trouble. This is my gift to all of you who mean so much to me. I hope we can all meet in Richmond next year. |
