Title: Ain't foaming yet...
Post by Paul98 on Aug 23rd, 2006, 5:51am
I'm finally done with the series of rabies shots!  All in all the worst part abot it was getting up at the crackass of dawn, driving accross the County to the ER so I beat all the drunkards waking up realizing they hurt them selves the night before.  The shots are trivial, the worst are the gamma globulins on the first day.  20 ml in the back of the hand was uncomfortable at most.

Other than an urge to run around the yard waiving my arms while catching bugs in my mouth, hanging from the ceiling and an affinity for Bloody Marys, I'm back to normal. [smiley=laugh.gif]

In the hand? I went through a series of rabies shots when in the army. They were in the stomach. Hurt like a sumbitch! Not because I had rabies but as prevention. Had to do with my job of carrying around dog heads and such. But, that's a story for another time.

As a kid, I was bitten in the face by the neighbor's dog.  The dog was quarantined, but because the bite was so close to the brain, they couldn't wait, so I was given a series of three rabies shots - in my stomach.

It hurt like hell, my mother fainted, my dad vomited, and I screamed like hell.

My Dad, who was bitten by a rabid dog - had the full series of seven shots - in the stomach.

Times have apparently changed.

Sandy

Glad its over for ya Paul. I am glad your ok.

Bob, I use to be a animal control officer, not only did I have to take animals heads to the capital to be tested for rabies, but I had to remove their heads from there bodys. It still haunts me.

Glad you ain't getting rabies.  It might have made your posts--well--a little odd.   ;)

Seriously, glad the series of shots is out of the way.  It was a bat you came in contact with, wasnt' it?

Best,

George

LMAO

Wouldn't have been too big a problem, though.  We could have gotten BobG to pack it around for us.

Yorks,  Ya can call me anything you like as long as it is not late for dinner. ;;D

Bob, the shot in the back of the hand was one of the Gamma Globulin shots.  The protocall is to give one of the Gamma Globulin shots at the sight of the bite, the rest go into deep muscle.  The Gamma Glob is antibody to the actual virus.  The actual antigen (dead rabies virus) is given in the arm these days and is not like the old days where it was in the stomach.

Jonny,  Sorry to disapoint ya Bro.  I'll try to have the next mishap I have make up for it and I'll get pictures.   [smiley=laugh.gif]

The only dog that ever bit me -- I bit him back and we never had that problem again.  :)

Glad you're doing better.

South Carolina 1973, I was selling candy for my school when a group of us walked up the lawn of a fellow student who's dad owned a gas station. Back then they used to put their dog in the gated lot to protect the property, since it was in the afternoon the dog was at home. As we walked up the lawn the german shepherd bolted through the screen door and leaped for my neck, luckily I turned my head and the dog latched on to my arm. The focker shook me like a rag doll and almost ripped my left arm off. The puncture wounds were so deep that muscle and tissue were hanging out of the holes in my arm. No rabies but a mangled arm, I lost a lot of blood and some muscle but overcame and just have scars to impress chicks.
