Title: OUCH Canada upgrading Post by Margi on Aug 21st, 2006, 10:03am just thought I better put a post up that we're in the process of upgrading our message board (to stop the "bots" from tormenting us ::)), so we're offline for a bit here. Hopefully, everything will be back to normal later today. Because of problems we've had recently, the new board will force an approved registration before a new member can post. Sad that we've had to come to this but more sad that there are situations out there that have pushed us to this. Thanks for your patience everyone... |

Title: Re: OUCH Canada upgrading Post by Kevin_M on Aug 21st, 2006, 11:56am Hey Margoo, I emailed to the link a few days ago when no password came back, but no reply yet. I registered but no password, send me one, or should I register again when it's up? thanks |

Title: Re: OUCH Canada upgrading Post by Margi on Aug 21st, 2006, 12:09pm Kevin, sorry about that. It could have happened when we were taking the old board down and putting the new one up, I'm not sure. I've had to daily be deleting new registrations because of the 'bots' so I could have accidentally deleted yours in the process. If you use aol or yahoo as your email provider this could very well have been the case. If so, I'm sorry. We were getting close to 20 new registrants a day because of the bots and so, unless it was an email that I recognized, I was just deleting. So, if you don't mind - wait until the new board is up and we'll get you set up. Sound good? :) |

Title: Re: OUCH Canada upgrading Post by Kirk on Aug 21st, 2006, 9:10pm Its a shame. But because of the bots and scripts that are running around. Those without real E-Mail accounts. Yahoo, Hotmail etc. Or those who aren't on the internet, using a mirroring system or network like AOL. Are going to be finding themselves left out in the dark. Oh well, its a good security practice. It probably won't hurt too many folks. After all, you want the internet, or atleast the world wide web part of it. Or do you want AOL, MSN and Yahoo to run your computer? Meanwhile you're cordially invited to join the data packet passing Alpha Geeks and Hackers out here on the internet. It really isn't all that hard or dangerous. Hell I do it without using a modem, DSL or Cable. All I've got is a Motorola radio. So stop fooling around and come out and play. Or not. I'll get off my soapbox now. If I could just remember where put that bottle of bourbon a minute ago. [smiley=smokin.gif] |

Title: Re: OUCH Canada upgrading Post by Bob P on Aug 22nd, 2006, 7:28am CalOUCH just did the same thing two weeks ago. Upgraded the MB, deleted the suspicious users and forced an e-mail to the webmaster to register, they stopped completely. |

Title: Re: OUCH Canada upgrading Post by Margi on Aug 23rd, 2006, 10:02am We're back up - but still using the old version of our board. Testing the newer version in the background and still fixing some security holes. We'll get the patches done before we go live, hopefully later this week. Thanks, everyone, for your patience. Kevin, your registration is there and I've gone in and changed your password for you - check your email ;) Margi |
