Title: my funny cat Post by Charlotte on Aug 19th, 2006, 12:52pm OK. On superbowl Sunday while my family was watching football, I went to the Tracy CA Animal Shelter and brought home the saddest cat you've ever seen. She'd been in jail 10 days and her human had gone to a nursing home & was never coming back. She only moved her chin for about 10 days. The she started to come to life slowly. With her background, she is a lap cat and as a hyper person, I have no lap - so we have had to work on a compromise there and she now comes near me, lets me pet her, lays down by my feet and does her yoga, and if I'm a really good girl, she goes to her scratching post to reward me. She didn't know how to play but now she will play a short time with a jute string. I love this cat. I keep telling her, "I choose you. I love you." Joe told me to take her back and get a friendly cat, but I love her and she's staying. Charlotte |

Title: Re: my funny cat Post by georgej on Aug 19th, 2006, 9:30pm I think she'll come around, Charlotte. Like people who've gone through a lot, it just takes a little time. We've got three of the familiars around who haunt the place. ;) I like 'em. George |

Title: Re: my funny cat Post by sandie99 on Aug 20th, 2006, 3:49am Charlotte, I just loved that story! My friend is planning to get a cat from a shelter, too. :) My landlady's cat was scared of some noises; vacuum cleaner, popcorn, breakfast cereal... they drove him to frenzy. But what a lovely cat he is... Sanna |

Title: Re: my funny cat Post by zwibbs/Scott on Aug 20th, 2006, 3:57am She will be fine, just give her some time. It is amazing how animals sense a change. We have a shelter in New Rochelle and I go on their web site to see who is available each week. I am fairly close to convincing my wife that we need a dog. |

Title: Re: my funny cat Post by Charlotte on Aug 20th, 2006, 2:13pm well, she almost has me trained. When she scratches her post and walks away, that is my signal that I may grab my string & play with her for a minute. Anytime she is at the scratching post or food bowl, I may pet, kiss, bug her any way I wish. When she goes in her cubicle it means I do not touch. She nibbles all day but doesn't eat much at a time. She doesn't seem to like any treats or even wet food, which severely disappointed Joe. I was a good girl today and she used her scratching post twice, and hung out at my feet 3 times. Charlotte |

Title: Re: my funny cat Post by kayarr on Aug 20th, 2006, 2:22pm We humans are trainable:) Our cat walks over to ya and flops on the floor and that is the cue to give her a good hard scratch and a spank on the behind. She also jumps up on the couch at night with her back to ya and her ears going backward so you can start to mess with her and she can air snap at your hand and meow. We call that game snapping Kittie. |

Title: Re: my funny cat Post by kayarr on Aug 20th, 2006, 6:30pm Ree, I had a fetch cat once.....she would play with her key chain rabbits foot and bring it back three times. Anything more than that was undignified. I am very happy your buddy has returned:) Kimberly |
