Title: P2P Users (LimeWire)
Post by unsolved1 on Aug 18th, 2006, 11:01am
I'm not sure if any of you use LimeWire or not. It's a free P2P program for getting free music, video, etc.

Limewire has been told to STOP all work. There is no one running Limewire now. It's on it's own now. Alot of the content there now may be URL re-directs or trojans/viruses. Be careful !!

For free music ... get Frostwire.com !!

UNsolved

P2P is a peer-to-peer program. You're opening up a port for others to access. It's not 100% safe, but what is on the internet? If you use any of these, make sure you're using updated virus protection software. (Use it) Also, make sure you're not sharing a folder that you don't want to share !  :)

Thanks! Oddly enough I just logged on Limewire today for the first time in a longtime and it prompted me to update it!?!?

So I loaded Frstwire and it looks suspiciouly like Limewire - in fact I didnot uninstall Limewire first and my Limewire partial downloads were in the new program before I even entered anything!

The new P2P client give anyone any problems or conflicts yet?

Thanks for that.

I downloaded the thing some weeks ago as I hope to do some stuff someday. I had to dump it. It was everywhere. No fun.

Thanks for the warning! :)

I have LimeWire. I suppose I'd better stop using it and get that other one. I just hate the idea that I have to look up all my fave songs all over again... but it's worth it if it protects my computer a little. :)

C'mon - I thought this was hilarious. Am I losing my sense of humor? Or was it never there?

"Limewire" is merely a client program written in "Java" that you have put on your machine to access the Gnutella P2P file sharing nework. Once you have it on your machine it is going to share only those files and directories you gave it permission to when you installed it. You do remember doing that? Don't you? When doing that dangerouse little thing, I hope that your Firewall, Anti-Virus etc. are up to snuff.
If you run an Apple Mac machine with OS X. Your Operating system is FreeBSD 6.xx. Not much chance of you getting hurt, unless you do something stupid.
MS Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP users. You should be running every security suite in sight. Won't stop anyone determined. But it might slow them down.
BSD, Linux and Solaris users. Have fun out there.
As for myself. I'm running Limewire 4.10 for Linux on my Fedora Core 5 Linux machine. Limewire 4.9 on my Windows XP SP2 Media Edition Laptop.
I don't care if someone told Limewire to stop. I already have the client and I'm just peachy with it.
If it bothers you that some damn fools want to stop Limewire fine. Get Sharebear or something. Its the same network. Just a different client.

Have fun sports fans.  [smiley=smokin.gif]

PS: Yer rite Brew that was funny.  [smiley=crackup.gif] Waddya got for yer the leaf node, I'm the leaf node?  [smiley=biggrin.gif]

It's all about the torrents...

www.utorrent.com  (for the downloading program)

www.mininova.org  (to get your downloads)

Careful though. The torrents are safe with music, but a buddy of mine got busted by NBC Universal for downloading a Columbo episode. I do his puter stuff and transcoding, and laughed and told him, "Dude, Columbo got us busted!"

The downloading jungle is getting scarce as big brother grows aware. Be careful.

Peace,
Carl D

Ya ever been to a ball game when a player(usually a rookie) hits a home run and nobody greets him as he crosses home plate and nobody says a word to him when he gets to the dugout? Then after a while they all cheer him at once? Well my friend ya hit a homer [smiley=bow.gif] [smiley=bow.gif] [smiley=bow.gif].
