Title: Son's hand broken @ school
Post by unsolved1 on Aug 16th, 2006, 6:49pm
I got a call this morning from the school nurse. She said my son's left hand was 'swollen, bruised, and he can't move his pinky finger'. So I went to pick him up and take him to the ER. After having some X-rays, they confirmed that he had broken his knuckle.  :-/

He's been a tough kid though. Didn't cry at all and complained very little.

My son says he was at his locker between classes when he bent down to pick up some books and some kids ran through the area ... stepping right on his hand.  WTF ??  If my kid was running in school, he'd probably get suspended ! (no kiddin)  I think I'll pay a visit to the principal in the morning to bitch !!  [smiley=mad.gif]

PS. Shouldn't the school be responsible for my son's safety while he's in school ??  What happened here ??

That is what we call the lefty approach.
The righty approach is suck it up and move on.  Kids get hurt.

My son broke his leg not long after starting nursery @ 3 years old.
I was called into school and he was sat on the headteacher's knee as she cradled him, he had fell off some apparatus, and didn't cry and could walk on it, but luckily a nursey nurse had seen the incident and they had called an ambulance. It was a clean break!
He came home to find that his teacher had already called round with cards that all his new friends had made and with sincere apologies. My anger soon subsided. He is now nearly 8 and can do nothing wrong at the school lol and he loves it!!

I hope your son is ok and on the mend

I see what you're saying Bob. I'm not interested in sueing the school or getting anybody in trouble. It's just that I can't help but to think that if my kid were on the other side of the story, he'd be in deep $tuff !!

I just don't want them to quickly forget about what happened to him today. Also, he writes with that hand ... they're going to have to accommodate him for a week or so.

I dont know how schools work over the other side of the pond but over here if you broke your writing hand you were laughing....you cant do your work with a broken hand and there isn't much they can do about it really!!

Hell I got attacked in the bathroom by a janitor in school and was afraid to tell my parents for about a week......I got away by tellin the guy I snuck out of class and would go sign out and be rite back........good save I must say and glad I was 'thinkin' cuz it worked !! It could of been bad cuz no one was around at that end of school either (high school)......what I am gettin at is my folks raised hell when they found out and the school said the poor guy had 6 or 7 kids and they thought we should drop it and not start trouble for him. Why did they let a man work in a girls bathroom dureing school hours anyhow.....he was in there ALL THE DAM TIME pretending to work and we kinda got used to it. Then I ran in by myself quick one day and he corner'd me and I won't get into the rest. I'd of much rather just been knocked down and stepped on Pam

Hope his hand heals up fast....sorry about the accident.
