i'm most often a believer that someone driving their point home to demonstrate their disgust here at CH.com by going guest is "high drama". I also believe that the Community's strength here is bigger than one person.

But, Jonathan is one awfully big part of this community and his departure, whether dramatic or not, and should he choose to stay "guest", makes our community less than it was with him here.

I hope that those of you involved in his last thread can rationalize the difference between making whatever point you were making with his departure.

So...since I was in on that thread, I am part of the problem?  I am not allowed to voice my opinions, beliefs, morals and values and defend them.  Even if they are challenged at every turn?  Shouldn't each person on the board be held in high esteem, because "we all bring something to the table"?  Granted, I don't know as much about meds and the like as Flo, but when people have jumped all over my posts, I never turned guesst.  Maybe I should feel somewhat responsible for his departure, but to tell you the truth, I don't.  During the last Presidental election, I was wholly roasted by Flo, Chewy, Charlie, Pittsburg Joe and the like for my views and my backing the Republican Party.  I still came to the board every day, took the hits as they came and when I finally got sick of it, I didn't make a scene, take my ball and go home, I just stopped clicking the icon.  I did come back after a month or so, but I didn't go and make a huge scene of that, either.  If everyone wants to cry racism, bigotry, homophobia, etc.  Well then everyone needs to take a good look at themselves.  If you are unable to see, understand or acknowledge a differing viewpoint aren't you being bigoted toward that position?  Maybe it's just me, but I think it is.  
So, if you feel that I'm responsible for all of this, then give me a time-out or ban me.  Or better yet, why don't we just drop the open General Posts forum and then no one will get their collective panties in a bunch.  I'm being pretty flippant about this because I've been very berated in the past over my views, more than Flo was getting by a long shot and he was throwing mud with the rest.  If you play on the Internet and hold views that are opposite of others, than you are going to have to have very thick skin when it comes to what people are going to say.  If not, then maybe you need to stay off the threads that tweek your nose.  If you noticed, the thread in question was the first political thread I've posted on in about a month.  I was sick of the BS and having to defend my positions to the likes of Flo, so I stopped posting on them.  Maybe he should have done the same.  YMMV  HTH

good to see you have such a thick skin and let things just roll off your back too.....       

I hold many who I don't particularly agree with on the political issues and moral issues in high esteem here on the boards because of their overall contribution.

I have told Flo, Chewy, Charlie, Pittsburg Joe, and various others, over the years about how much I respect their stand on various issues.  This thread is the first time I have written about the digs I took over my political views a few years ago.  I never let it taint my view of the people who I respected.  Since my first post to this thread was in response to being "called out" for changing Flo to guesst, I decided to share some experience of my own.  If that leads to you think that I am harboring ill toward any of those folks, so be it...

Everyone is entitled to there opinion and should not be hammered for it, unfortunately some people can’t let that go and have to try and make you change your view.

Flo, I seriously doubt that we would agree on most political things but I don’t think you should depart this dysfunctional family over this, we all need each other so everyone who was fighting go to your room for a time-out then lets all play nice again.

As long as I have known Flo....he has never ran from a debate, it could be that something else in his life is wrong......who knows, I just know that the dude has some pretty thick skin to deal with the likes of me for all these years.

Anybody consider the possibility that it's an administrative oops? I was looking to send another member a PM yesterday (this person sits on the BOD), and they, too, were listed as "Guest." They're not anymore.

Maybe there was some administrative housecleaning going on. Every once in awhile, I forget to push a chair back after I've vacuumed under it.

Well, I just want to say, for those like me that don't have their paths cross much with political or religious issues, though they've come into view but interest didn't take me in that direction, I see views presented here that can be enlightening.
 However, when a facet of thought on the subjects is presented that is difficult to identify with, or not a compatible scrutiny, it has been nice to always see another side presented, a countering view that has aspects also ringing true.  
 Without saying anything, I guess I always took for granted Jon would provide that for me, continuing to always stand alone on the shore against the tide rolling in.  He would be there for those like me that have little confidence in that arena.  I'll miss his immmense contributing of arcs to the circle of facts.

I thought Flo to be onea the toughest here.....not to mention SMARTEST and rather 'respected' ta boot......maybe it was a glitch ??

SUMTIMES were all part of a problem.........vocal opinions will do that to a group.....I see it all the time at home hangin out with large groups of friends.

In respect to a reference to Stalin, other than being a misused example for exaggeration, appears an opinion that shows unfamiliarity with the one of a kind pure criminal to become a world leader, and being used for any comparisons seems not in any ball park.

Boy, you really got me, didn't you Brian?  I guess I'm just a parrot of Limbaugh, can't think for myself, never got anything by hard work, and certainly never studied history.  Never...not even to the point that it was the Republicans that started the Civil Rights push.  Oh wait, isn't Senator Byrd an ex-Klan member?  Who knows more about civil rights than the Klan?  Don't have a clue about politics.  Well, then why don't you enlighten me?  If it's so obvious that I listen, then why do you have to bring it out, Oh Captain Obvious?  FYI, I haven't listened to Limbaugh or any other politico in about 3 years.  Sorry if my views run along the same lines as other converatives that you may have heard of.  I've had my beliefs, morals and opinions since I was about 15.  I would try to jab back, but you know, every time someone trys to defend their position on the right, with past facts, we get accused of bringing up blow jobs and stained dresses.  Get a new line, Franken.  Sorry if my example of Stalin got your panties in a wad.  I figured it was kinda fitting since most Leftist would love to follow the Communist Russia way of doing things.  Seeing a Leftist speak of smaller government, fiscal responsibility and civil rights makes me laugh my ass off.  Call me what ever you wish, think of what I say in whatever context you wish, personally I really could care less.  Sorry to flame back but you really don't know me or know anything about me, my family or personal dealings.  Don't make assumptions about someone before you have the info.

Well, I'll miss him.  I haven't been hanging out here on a regular basis for all that long, but I'll still miss him if he decides to stay away.

I try to appreciate extraordinary people for who they are, not for what they believe.  And I think Floridian is an extraordinary person.  He could be a Zoroastrian communard who believes in the divine right of kings.  So what?  Don't care.  

Look--I'm not hacked at anybody, nor am I pointing fingers and decrying the way things are going, and where is this handbasket taking us anyway?  Frankly, even with the recent rambunctiousness, this is still one of the most civil places I've ever seen on the net.  You should see the fly fishermen--man, what a bunch of flamelords....CH.com is a cakewalk.

Edited to add on Elizabeth's behalf:  

The archaeologists are MUCH worse.  

I have friends all over the political map, and some in Terra Incognita and some who live on Mars, politically.  I love 'em all, even when they're seriously wanked.

The Al Franken show SUCKS.  It is the worst radio show I have ever heard on radio.

Seriously though, in all the discussions I have had with Flo, (and Charlie) I have never gotten personal. I always respected Flo's opinions because he stuck to his guns. He never backed off because someone disagreed with him. Not to mention his med knowledge. He will be missed and i hope he comes back. People come and people go but I always took it for granted Flo was a permanent fixture of CH.com.\

Well, rats - I'm sure sorry to see that Flo has deleted his profile.  I hope it's just a break and that he comes back soon.  

I have no idea what thread caused this nor do I feel it's any of my business (I shy away from most things political).

Jonathan, if you're reading this, I would rather have emailed you directly but...I can't find your email address.  Your wisdom and grace is much needed around here.  Take the time you need but please do come back when you can.  We'll leave a light on for you.

The message board is the same no matter who is here. We have people who care, people who troll, and people who hurt.
Deleting a profile and having some one write "this MB won't be the same without him. " is high drama.
I've come and gone since 1998...

This board needs an "Ignore This Member" feature.

In lue of that, I've seen boards where no personal attacks were not allowed, except in a certain folder. I don' t believe there isn't a single difference respectful adults couldn't debate without attcking eachother like children - if they WANTED to. I know I am sick of pointing out data-based points in thread only to get the response of a stupid picture and name calling.

Some will call this idea "communist" or catering to thin skinned people. I do not. NANI is correct - lots of CONTRIBUTING people are leaving, getting ready to leave, or have left. And long time members who attack others, post immature pictures, incite drama, etc. are NO DIFFERENT than trolls, except that they should know better.

I've lurked here plently the last few months and some long-time users here post and reply to "high drama" threads 30 to one as opposd to CH related posts. I ask - what is the real reason those people are here and is it worth it if they drive other, contributing posters away?

The only one that can really answer this is the DJ - the perons whose intentions are what started this place, in the first place. But if no one cares that this happening then why not shut the whole thing down or take the CH posts to a new site - that leaves these antogonists here to do all the little, tiny, argumentative, non-support posts they want.

Not many. He sucks as a radio personality. His ideas are good and he is a good writer but his personna is NFG.

Guys like Limbaugh will always get more audience. Acerbic loudmouths always do. It's like "All In The Family." The wackiest ones, like Ann Coulter even get more listeners. She is an embarrassment to both sides because she is badly behaved child.

My biggest gripe is that when it comes down to elections and debates is that Democrats need a Karl Rove. They need to stop letting replies go without calling the replier a dumb shit like the GOP does. Dems have to stop being nice before November. It's no good to be nice until you have someone to veto or a majority to stop the lunacy.

First off, I have not read this whole thread, I just dont have the time and inclination.  But wanted to say something.


I have talked with Flo a few times, argued with him and such as well.  I have never seen him stand down and to acknowledge everyone elses side even if he did not agree with it.
