Title: How to deal with flatmates... Post by sandie99 on Aug 2nd, 2006, 4:46am ... the SANDIE way! Now, someone above must think that I can train flatmates well, because I've got 3 who need to be housetrained... ::) Now this is how you do it: - If they move your food from the place you have kept your food for the past 2 years, move your food right back - if they move your towels from the place you have kept your towels for the past 2 years, move your towels right back - if they use your shampoo, take your shampoo bottles back to your room and take them with you when you need to wash your hair; after all, this is not a hotel! Shampoo is not complimentary. - if they refuse to follow the halls of residence policy what comes to recycling, calmly take the items away from the trash can and and place them to the table with a note which reminds them the guide lines they all have agreed to follow. - if they refuse to take the trash out, consider leaving it out in the sunshine and then place it infront of their room... after all, they're making trash too and you are not a maid. - if they do not do their share of the household chores, consider leaving a bill on the table; after all, this is not a hotel and you're not a maid. If they make mess, they're responsible for cleaning it. Unless that they're willing to pay for you to do it. - if they use your personal plates (which you have placed on your cubboard with a note which informs that they are your personal dishes) and leave them dirty on the sink and expect you to wash it, then calmly wash that dish and put it on its place, take a pic of the plate cubboard so you can tell if somebody has used something while you've been away. - if they use your personal towel, simply take that towel to your room and take it with you when you need it. - if they steal your stuff, find out who is responsible and demand them to bring it BACK RIGHT NOW. So, so far I've moved my food back, towels back, removed my shampoos, removed my kitchen towel, found out why my potholder was missing, reminded about recycling guidelines, shown where the trash cans are and found one of my plates dirty in the sink. Sure, I've been bit passive aggressive, but because talk doesn't work... I had to do something. But: - if they drink your Red Bull without replacing it, that's it. They're DEAD! Let's hope that it doesn't come to that. Luckily for me, these flatmates are here for just 3 weeks and this is week 2... :D Sanna |
