Off the top of my head, chancellor in late January 1933, president after meeting privately with a dying Hindenburg in August 1933, he emerged as president, somehow.

*ok, referenced it.  Chancellor Jan. 30, 1933 and the presidency was combined with the chancellory on Aug. 1, 1934.  Hindenburg died the next day.

Yorky,

I'm going to have to challenge the validity of question #5.

In an historical account, translated from German by Thomas Dunlap, this excerpt appears about the subject in question.

Quote:
The last barrier that separated Hitler from total dictatorship was the president, less as a person than an institution whose rights had been explicitly left untouched by the Enabling Act.  On August 1, 1934, Hitler went to see Hindenburg one last time.  Upon his return to Berlin he had a law passed naming him Hindenburg's sucessor: the office of president was abolished and Hitler was granted the postion of Fuhrer and chancellor.  This took place immediately prior to Hindenburg's death.  This action exceeded the powers granted by the Enabling Act...
...Minister of War von Blomberg declared that it was his intention, "immediately after the death of the president, to have the soldiers of the Reichswehr swear an oath to the Fuhrer and Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler.

Hitler made a law on August 1st making himself Hindenburg's successor and abolishing the presidency.  When Hindenburg died on August 2, 1934 there was no office of presidency any longer, there was Fuhrer and chancellor.  Hitler did not succeed Hindenburg's position as president.

Wikipedia agrees:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_von_Hindenburg

One day before Hindenburg's death, Hitler flew to Neudeck and visited him. Hindenburg, old and senile, thought he was meeting Kaiser Wilhelm II, and called Hitler "Your Majesty".

He would be Germany's last president until 1945, when Karl Dönitz became president, as following Hindenburg's death, Hitler declared the office of President to be permanently vacant, effectively merging it with the office of Chancellor under the title of Leader and Chancellor (Führer und Reichskanzler), making himself Germany's Head of State and Head of government, thereby completing the progress of Gleichschaltung.

No need to get back unless there is evidence otherwise, many sources gloss over the details.  The historical excerpt is by Wolfgang Benz, Professor of History and Director of the Center for Research on Anti-Semitism at the Technische Universitat Berlin.
I only answered it because I knew no one would want to, but the history of physics invariably takes one through Germany in the first half of the twentieth century and the idiot psycho comes up.
