Title: My son is finally getting it! Post by Melissa on Jul 30th, 2006, 10:37pm Today I tried again to begin potty training Eli. I decided that since he understands mom much better now, I would make him go without any drawers for 1/2 the day today. No underwear either, just free ballin. Well, he has not had a single accident yet. Matter of fact, he brought his little potty chair (he likes the portability factor) into the family room, likes to stand directly over it and fires away! Scares the shit out of me each time he does it! Just thought I'd share that lovely step in his life with everyone. ;;D |

Awww, I'm sorry sis! I completely understand how frustrating it is!! I had tried potty training Eli earlier with no success. He's the type of boy where when he's ready to do it, he'll do it and it'll be on his own terms. I waited to try again when he could understand me well enough to know he wasn't supposed to pee on the floor. Who knows, he might go backwards tomorrow when I try to have him wear underwear. ::) I'm going to let him run around nekkid tho until we have to leave the house. At least today has been some progress! hugs, melly |

Does he have a "big boy" seat for the potty? Let him know that "big boys" potty in the toilet!! Try the 'ol Cherrios target practice. Conner did very well at that! Also, if you go to http://www.pottytrainingstuff.com/tip.htm, it may help...just a thought! Great big hugs and support!!! Steph |

Way to early for the seat down thing, he will be scared for life! It is a male rite of passage to have to undergo extensive (and emotionally painfull) re-programing after marrage to become domesticated. ;;D -P. |

Title: Re: My son is finally getting it! Post by BarbaraD on Jul 31st, 2006, 8:09am The seat thing is a challenge. Right now I'm trying to teach Caleb - you put the seat up when you go and then you put it down -- Granny's too old to go swimmng. But for some reason, Caleb thinks that when you go poop, you MUST take all your clothes off. This is fine at home but when we're OUT, it gets pretty bad. But Mel, you're right about one thing -- when they're ready - they'll do it on their own. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: My son is finally getting it! Post by Mosaicwench on Jul 31st, 2006, 10:28am Best advice I ever got was "No one goes to Kindergarten in diapers . . ." There is hope - truly! My still-in-diapers-boy used to like privacy when pooping so he'd run around to the front porch . . . . cracked the neighbors up for sure! He's almost 15 now and didn't go to Kindergarten in diapers and still likes privacy to poop . . . .perhaps I've said too much. Seems like it takes forever but it eventually comes together. Good luck! |

Title: Re: My son is finally getting it! Post by georgej on Jul 31st, 2006, 10:40am Only ever had to potty-train a little girl. It was easy. It's difficult to relate to the challenge of potty-training a boy. I'll admit that girls are more matter-of-fact, sensible and advanced creatures. There, I've said it. Best of luck, Melissa. Title: Re: My son is finally getting it! Post by Melissa on Jul 31st, 2006, 11:49am Well, when he got up this morning, he was pretty cranky. He growled and yelled at me because I wanted to take his diaper off right away. When I finally did get it off of him, it was completely dry! He then, when he was ready, went on his little potty again. Just a little while ago, we found some Spongebob Squarepants undies in his drawer (Thanks Elaine! ;)), and he was ecstatic to put them on. I made it perfectly clear that he could NOT pee in them at all! He then, while I was in the loo myself, went into the other bathroom, shut the door and went potty all by himself. Then I heard him screaming from behind the door. I ran into there, expecting to see his peter squashed between the toilet seat and lid, and instead I found him with both legs through one of the leg holes of his underwear. ::) I then slowly showed him how they're supposed to go on, and he then went back to whatever it was he was doing. Looks like we might not need to have anything except plastic pants on him for tonight! (crossing fingers) ;;D |

Sorry, my take on it is if the woman is too lazy to look to see if the seat is down, she deserves a wet ass. (My wife hates when I say that...he he he) Steve |
