Title: What's in a name? Post by Dragnlance on Jul 28th, 2006, 11:10pm So many places I have been to have these grand sounding names, that make you wonder.. why? So here I am in "Great Falls".. why that name? Lewis and Clark actually went 20 miles out of their way to avoid it. So we will start in reverse order as compaired to how L&C found the place. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i185/Dragnlance/bkegl-falls.jpg This is the last of the falls that L&C found. It is called Black Eagle Falls, which is in the city limits. The light is wrong here but the rocks are quite large. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i185/Dragnlance/rainbow-falls-1.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i185/Dragnlance/rainbow-falls-2.jpg A mere 4.8 miles down river is Rainbow Falls http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i185/Dragnlance/crooked-falls-1.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i185/Dragnlance/crooked-falls-2.jpg Less than a half mile from Rainbow, is Crooked Falls. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i185/Dragnlance/great-falls-3.jpg Finally you have what Lewis in Clark found and forced them to portage 20 miles... The Great Falls of the Missouri River. This is where I live |
