Title: Re: 1 of 11,000 Post by karma on Jul 27th, 2006, 1:43pm yea your right. I guess that sentence was kinda ambiguous. What I meant was the guy is honorably discharged as a decorated vet but had no choice. He had to go even though the service is sorely in need of good men and good linguists. Rediculous!! |

Title: Re: 1 of 11,000 Post by JeffB on Jul 27th, 2006, 2:29pm If he didn't openly say anything and was outed by others WTF? We had gays on some of my ships and they were pretty obvious about it but they did their jobs! But if think about it, if you were gay, wouldn't the military be the first place you go to meet men? [smiley=laugh.gif] They should have kept him in and let him serve his country. |

Title: Re: 1 of 11,000 Post by Carl_D on Jul 27th, 2006, 2:45pm Someone being kicked out of the military for being gay is about as fucked up as being kicked out because you do not like green peppers on your pizza, or you mix your corn and mashed potatoes together. Talk about ridiculous. Carl D |

for those who don't know... It was introduced as a compromise measure in 1993 by President Bill Clinton, who while campaigning for the Presidency had promised to allow all citizens regardless of sexual orientation to serve openly in the military, a departure from the contemporary complete ban on those who are not heterosexual. The actual policy was crafted by Colin Powell and has been maintained by Clinton's successor, George W. Bush. |

Title: Re: 1 of 11,000 Post by Ghost on Jul 28th, 2006, 10:34am I almost forgot since he didn't openly tell/admit while it active duty the Government is in violation of the law by discharging him, hence don't ask/don't tell. if he didn't tell they cannot ask. To me this is not tolerance it is blatant discrimination, just because someone else didn't like him. I my self am a hetro but if the guy didnt out himself then he was wronged by his command. Mike |
