Title: senseless stupid vent Post by cootie on Jul 26th, 2006, 10:03pm Friend of mine about lost his leg in an accident a year ago and got his leg broke and big chunk of bone tore out they ended up getting back in place and went thru SEVERAL surgeries and had the halo on his leg for months !!!! He's a real big guy mid 50's and not very active and WAS a heavy smoker. Anyhow.....it's been almost a year now exactly and he has a regular cast on and back to work just doin desk work fineally !!! He doesn't get around very well tho and so winded if he tries to walk 10 foot is it scarey. He quit smokeing of course. All in all his leg is supposidly healing up.....he's had ALOT of pain tho the past month. And he can't get back into see his doc till the next apt which was over a month away......so he waited and kept tryin to walk sum. So he goes to his apt yesturday to find out his leg is rebroken......if they'd of takein him in sumhow a month ago they'd of maybe caught it earlier but they said the docs office is STRICT about apt dates. That is such BULLSHIT !!! So now the guy is on bed rest and can't go to work and needs taken care of hand and foot until they schedule new surgery to put in plates and bolts and screws I think they should of done in the first place. Obvious the guy is big.....and out of shape and not tip top health wise for it to heal STRONG as needed with a break that bad. If the plates and all don't work and more infections set in like what he dealt with before they will take the foot fromt he ankle down !! I think alot of things were handled wrong here.....senseless long time pain and agony and then they find out it isn't strong enuff to hold. Sheesh.....thanks for listening. Non healing Pam We were with the friend when he got into the accident and been watching him go thru all the fazes to get better and now this.............. :'( |

Title: Re: senseless stupid vent Post by cootie on Jul 26th, 2006, 11:08pm My friends problems AREN'T mine......but this is sumthin that happen'd to sumeone close and we've been there thru alot of it with him......were a tight group I guess but we've had BBQ's at there house to show our support and hang out and yuck it up since he can't get out much yet and Brad and friends even built his wheelchair ramp and revamped his bathroom shower so he could use it with his handicap. We all put on a benifiet for them and even helped mow and go fix things when needed. It's not a problem for me what he is going thru......it's witnessing sumthing that could happen to any of us that scares me Pam Ps: Um.....why does it suck to be me ? I didn't get that part.........oh well........whatever........ |

Title: Re: senseless stupid vent Post by cootie on Jul 26th, 2006, 11:28pm That's cool dear.....wonder'd why ya said that.......I was jus pondering on how bad shit has fazes and when the fazes are fineally about over and yer crawln outa that hole it can all go back to the tragic start in a flash. I think plates and pins and bolts would of been a better FIRST choice. Was jus makein an observation......sorry for my ramblings Pam Love ya !!!! |

Title: Re: senseless stupid vent Post by Carl_D on Jul 27th, 2006, 3:16am It seems like some doctors are only to happy to put a band aid on a gunshot wound, and then people needlessly suffer. Sorry to hear your friend is going through this. Ditto what Ree said; he's in my prayers. Peace, Carl D |

Title: Re: senseless stupid vent Post by BarbaraD on Jul 27th, 2006, 5:53am Sorry Pam. What kind of doc doesn't follow up? And I agree that having to wait to see him was BS! Hope he does ok. Just try to keep his spirits up and don't let him go into a depression -- that's not good for anyone. A friend of mine had a brain tumor and had chemo. She lost all her hair. Everyone was sympathizing with her and really getting her depressed. I found her some really gawdy earings and a crystal ball and told her she could start a new profession - a fortune teller. Needless to say, she got a laugh out of it, but she cheered up. Hope he does ok and is back DOING the BBQ soon. Ya'll hang in there and keep helping him. That's what friends are for. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: senseless stupid vent Post by Summerbabe on Jul 27th, 2006, 9:05am ;)Coots, aww honey that blows!!! sorry for your friend and his doc sounds like an idiot. I think part of the problem of your friend healing is the docs fault. Your friend does need to shed the weight in order to heal correctly and god bless him for trying and quitting the butts. You sound like a gem of a friend my sweet. Brad too. Another doctor, orthopedic specialist should be in your friends corner . Especially with the possibility of amputation. :(. Good lord he is in my prayers...You are a true friend..god bless you..All my best , Summer 8) |

Title: Re: senseless stupid vent Post by cootie on Jul 27th, 2006, 11:34am Thank you guys.......the SUPPORT felt goooooood ! Ya know....I'm just questioning a specialist special ways and how we are led in a docs direction of healing and routine when maybe other avenues should of been consider'd or ADDED !? This doc that saved his leg invented the halo device for legs and limbs to save them. But I question'd the strength of the healing from the start considerin the guys health and weight and size. And I also question wether the family was aggressive enuff when this pain started back up to GET HIM IN EARLY verses sit back and submit to the doctors office rules of WAIT till it's your turn. Would think if they KNEW it was rebroke they'd of taken him in early ? Brad told the wife a few times to GET HIM IN EARLY but she said oh no......the office has strict rules on that !!!! I dunno......I brought this up to question docs techniques and a patients aggressiveness to also do the same and to push for an early visit if sumthin seems wrong even if ya piss em off. Who's rite who's wrong YOU LOOSE Pam Yeah we been takein care of the guy when we can doin stuff as a group and fixin stuff when we can......nuther friend got hurt and the guys went over and cleaned up storm damage for him cuz he can't do it and had a mess. Gets to be a pain sumtimes when ya got yer own stuff to tend to but what goes around comes around also.....and a friend in need is a friend in deed. Sorry if this s comein across as a whine.......we need more education in our own care options sumtimes I guess. |

Title: Re: senseless stupid vent Post by alchemy on Jul 27th, 2006, 11:47am Pam, you're not whining just pissed. I'm trying to understand why the family just said oh we can wait because of the doc offices rules. to me that's crazy. with the damage he had done and pain was developing later on it's an issue to be addressed immediately. The offices may have rules but they can be broken, if not there's the ER where it could have been addressed then. Better than amputation. just my 2cents. sorry about your friend. jim |
