Title: My Beagle
Post by DonnaHar on Jul 25th, 2006, 5:31am
Polly saw the second Vet yesterday and he did Xrays which showed three little tiny questionable spots in her cervical spine.....way up at the top, and two in the shoulder area.

He's getting a  Neuro to look at them today or tomorrow and will consult again.  In the meantime, she's taking an NSAID called Previcox 227 mg.

She's had two more episodes since I wrote a few days ago.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the PM's.....they mean a lot to me.

Is she haveing sessions of bein wobbly cuz of the possible spots pushin on the spineal cord ?? That is such a sad thing to happen but seems rather common in alot of elderly dogs. Sumtimes you can find a way to overcome it to give them more mobile years with surgery or meds.....hope she will be ok !!!! Sorry to hear about it tho. Puppy Pammie

Polly is a 2 -1/2 year old Beagle who has been crying out in pain for about 15 seconds without any symptoms......until the last episode which was Monday morning.  I saw her left leg go up and the paw droop and than she started howling and crying in pain.  Pretty intense!  She does not wobble, so we don't think it's CVI, which isn't common in Beagles anyway.

Her primary Vet diagnosed her with CVI without so much as an Xray.  The second Vet, my sister takes her dogs to him, said we need to put her on an NSAID and do Xrays to start to rule out other disorders before we talk about an MRI. ($1,500.00 !!!)  So, we wait and see now until the Neuro takes a look.

Polly is the typically sweet natured, stubborn little pack animal  who thinks she is second in command in my family.

Donna,
You know I'm thinking of you and Polly.  Let's hope it will be just an easy surgery for the neuro (it won't be cheap, they never are) and that she'll recover well and be ok.

One of the things I loved for recovery for back surgeries was doing physical therapy.  Swimming was the best...specially when they were small enough to just fill up the tub and hold thier chest and let em swim.  Keep it in mind for later.

Love ya's,
Mast

Ree, I'm sorry if I brought hurtful memories to the surface again.

Thanks to you all and, Mast you were right on the money when you said she needed an NSAID.

Polly says thanks for the good wishes from the other furry friends, and Tucker you're one good lookin' hound.  ;)

Hope to hear something tomorrow or the next day.
