Title: Coming To You Live From Ground Zero
Post by Carl_D on Jul 23rd, 2006, 7:48pm
After the massive storm wednesday, we got a second wallop shortly after I posted here on friday. Lost power again, and was under a water boil order until this morning. About 300'000 people still have no power. Some have no water (we lost it yesterday in my area for 6 hours). I walked the town yesterday looking at all of the downed trees and powerlines, light posts busted in half with the lamp on the ground, signs blown out, etc. This is the worst thing to hit this area in about 50 years, and we have been declared a disaster area.

It's been absolute madness the last few days, and I am glad to be able to just kick back a bit today. My brother's side of the street had power but not the other side (my bro's house is on the same power sector as the hospital, so had power for awhile before others, but then lost it again friday) so my sis in law was making pizzas and sending pizza and bottled water to neighbors, and there were 8 or 9 kids here including my niece and nephew, so I was watchdog thursday & friday and didn't sleep for about 40 something hours. Not good for Fibromyalgia!!! I feel like I have been run over by a steamroller, but am still going.

I called my buddy Chuck yesterday and told him, "Dude, I haven't had time nor power to rehearse this stuff and am a bit freaked." He just said, "Going to plan B. Will call ya back." The band Ivory Tiger had a cancelled gig due to power outage, so Jimmy B filled the slot last night. I went and sat in on with them on a couple of songs, and told Chuck I am learning the material for future reference. He said that their guitarist always has shit come up, so it looks like it could turn into a permanent gig. It would be cool too, since this band is much more laid back than the last one. I hate being in bands that take the fun out of playing.

Oh, and Chuck is VERY INTERESTED in my Sabbath/ Ozzy tribute band and wants to play bass. He said he knows a singer who can do Ozzy perfect, so we just need a drummer. I decided that since Randy Rhoads was my main inspiration to trade my drums for a guitar that I would also include the first two Ozzy solo albums which they were known as th Blizzard of Ozz band. Soooo.... I was toying with names the other day and came up with Blizzard of Sabbath, and then my sis in law said "How about Black Blizzard?" I thought it was too cool so am going with that name. Black Blizzard - kinda has a eerie ring to it - perfect for a Sabbath tribute band.  8)

Just relaxing a bit before going back home in a bit. A friend said yesterday that I shouldn't walk the town without carrying something just in case. I told him I am carrying something: 19 years of agression given to me by the CH beast!

Peace,
Carl D

I want to, bad! But, you have to play covers to get your foot in any door, and then you spring a few originals on a crowd. After awhile, people get familiar enough with your originals and start requesting them. It's all beer politic; you have to play the stuff that people know to get them in the door and drinking.

But yeah man, the dream is being able to go out every night and play all original and drawing the crowd.  In actuality, I'm happy just to be playing again.

Peace,
Carl

Just down from us about 6 miles an entire woods was taken out by storms not long ago......same big hill in this deep valley we live next to.......seems so odd to go thru that nice wooded section and have the sun in your eyes cuz the hill is TREELESS......the damage is UNBELEIVEABLE. Not one tree left standing on one huge patch on the hill......we were very lucky and each storm scares me more and more. GLAD your alright !!! Good luck with this other band too. Hey.....speaking of bands.....have you ever heard of the band 'Two Skinny Dorks'......(I know I know......wierd name) but man oh man if ANY OF YOU ever get a chance to see them DO IT.
