Title: Doctors and guns this is interesting
Post by Dissident on Jul 23rd, 2006, 3:00pm
Some of you may have seen this already. I just got it in an email...

Subject: doctors and guns this is interesting

A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000

(B) Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000

(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services.

Now think about this:

Guns:

(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.

(Yes, that's 80 million..)

(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.

(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is

.000188
Statistics courtesy of the FBI

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!

Out of concern for the public at large, we have withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!

I've seen this before, but it never fails to make me chuckle.

Thanks for the smile.

Good God what a catastrophe we have.  It is an emergency I tell you!

It doesn’t surprise me.  I have finally found a wonderful GP that listens.  When I first saw him he admitted he had heard about CH but did not know much about them.  The next time I saw him, he had done his homework.  He knew more about CH, knew the different meds to treat it and the dosages.  It took me 15 years and 30 Dr.'s to find him.

I have thought many students in my lab and ~ 50% were pre-med.  Only 3 of them would I entrust my body to.  That is 3 out of ~ 20 pre med students.  Some had the smarts but lacked common sense.  Some had common sense but lacked motor skills (hand eye coordination) some were just fucking stupid and arrogant to boot.  Almost all of them got into med school because they could memorize.  All of the students in my lab were in the top 10% grade wise in the university.  That makes 3 out of ~ 40 students I would consider exceptional.  It scares me to see what they let graduate from high school and actually get into college.

THESE are the ones that'll kill you in a heartbeat. Too many of these out there. I'll take the ones without hand/eye coordination any day. They most likely have some compassion left in them, even after med school gets done with them.

Without hand eye coordination?  Some of the kids in my lab that were pre med would probably poke your eyeball out with an ophthalmoscope.  LOL.  I'm not joking!!!

Before I get into it, bear in mind that I've had my share of guns....quite a few actually and have no interest in banning the things. They can be fun and everywhere here.

These comparisons do not alter the fact that 1,500 people are killed accidentally.

For Godsake be sure you know wtf you're doing with the things.

Yep. At least the clutzy ones with compassion will know when to summon assistance. The arrogant ones won't and don't.

If my appendix bursts, I'm rushing to a gun dealer!!

Think about it - how many people die in hospitals and how few people die in bars and night clubs?  We would be so much better off if the hospitals stopped performing diagnostics & surgery and were converted to drinking establishments.

LOL. It was just a funny!

Charlie, Thomas,

A good majority of these gun deaths can be attributed to dumb asses not locking their guns away from children. I agree with you wholeheartedly. If you must have guns and children in the same house (I must) then you should at very least keep them locked in a safe (then get the kids to a gun safety course).

I've got a few guns myself...several hunting rifles (although I don't hunt), two handguns and five semi-auto assault rifles (three AR-15s two M4 /RockRiver Arms/Bushmaster and a home built with RR upper two stage trigger etc etc etc).
I wouldn't even think of having these guns in my home without being locked up tight.
Now you guys can say you know a left wing liberal that owns and loves guns  ;;D  (there aren't many I'm sure).

BJ
