Title: Gotta Crow a lil bit Post by Margi on Jul 21st, 2006, 11:49am I'm sure my Canadians are getting pretty sick of me talking about this but tomorrow will be SEVEN WEEKS since I quit smoking. ;;D Mast and Mel were major inspirations to me, as was Jeepgun for pointing me to a great website that got me thinking in the right direction. That site is www.quitsmokingonline.com - check it out, it's pretty cool. I also joined www.quitnet.com - it's been crucial in my quit to be able to talk to others going through it. Here's my stats as of today. More than EIGHT HUNDRED smokes not smoked!! I have been quit for 1 Month, 1 Week, 4 Days, 1 hour, 48 minutes and 34 seconds (41 days). I have saved $345.03 by not smoking 821 cigarettes. I have saved 2 Days, 20 hours and 25 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 6/10/2006 8:00 AM Mast and Mel - thank you girls - you continue to inspire me to keep my quit! And, thanks to you, too - Frank - I bet you didn't even realize that I still remembered. Took me a little while to get going but I'm SO glad I've got smoke freedom now!! Crow session now concluded. Thank you for your time. |

Title: Re: Gotta Crow a lil bit Post by Sandy_C on Jul 21st, 2006, 11:53am Darn Margie! That's great! As much as I love to smoke, I've been toying (ehhh, just a little bit) with quitting. The biggie for me as the amount of money you saved (to heck with my health :-/) Congratulations! Keep us posted on how you're doing. I just might check in to those websites. - "might" being the key word here :-/ Sandy |

Linda and I are both quitting (again) tomorrow morning so I am going to hijack your sites and possibly your supporters. Now use this to clean the nicotine off your screen ;;D http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g49/LaDy_LaDy/SCREEN%20CLEANERS/just2520checking2520in.gif .....Tim |

Title: Re: Gotta Crow a lil bit Post by Margi on Jul 21st, 2006, 12:09pm LOL I'm tellin ya, this smoke freedom is addictive. Here's those links again for those interested. www.quitsmokingonline.com it's a free course designed for the smoker who hasn't quit yet. Chapter Six deals so well with how to handle the craves. www.quitnet.com This one has message boards there where you can talk to other quitters. I have a local link for my province that puts me in touch with quitters right here in Calgary. My local link is www.albertaquits.ca but I think if you type in your location, it will take you to YOUR local link. I've got tons of stuff saved in my library that speaks to the methodology that you need to get your stop smoking thinking to kick into gear. Just message me if you want any of it. It's honestly not that hard, folks - but you have to make your mind up that you're ready. If you're not ready, you'll fail. This is my ninth and final quit. |

Title: Re: Gotta Crow a lil bit Post by fubar on Jul 21st, 2006, 1:19pm Margi.... YOU ROCK!! We are one hell of a smoking bunch. I am amazed at how many clusterheads are also heavy smokers. I don't care if there's a reason behind it, I'm just saying we have a LOT of smokers. To be perfectly honest, it's probably the biggest reason I haven't been to a convention yet. Ya ya ya, I know it's a lame excuse (to you smokers) but I just don't have fun when I can't breath. Call me crazy. Our convention pictures could be mistaken for a smokers convention. That's not fun for me. I'm SO glad for you Margi. I know you'll succeed in your quest, and I hope you inspire others to go smokefree. reminds me of a saying: Aspire to Inspire before you EXPIRE. -Fu |

Title: Re: Gotta Crow a lil bit Post by Margi on Jul 21st, 2006, 1:32pm Thanks, Shawn ;) I hear you on the smokey room thing. Something I just have to stay away from for now. Mike still smokes, but at least he's smoking outside now. There's a saying over at the quitnet today that I've printed out and put on my desk here. I am trying really hard not to be a PITA ex-smoker but this one really strikes a chord with me. "Confront the dark parts of yourself, and work to banish them with illumination and foregiveness. Your willingness to wrestle with your demons will cause your angels to sing. Use the pain as fuel, as a reminder of your strength." August Wilson I just love that 'cause your angels to sing' part. :) So much good stuff like this at these sites. |

Title: Re: Gotta Crow a lil bit Post by Mattrf on Jul 21st, 2006, 1:43pm Just passed this all on to my wife who has smoked for ever and keeps saying she wants to quit. Thanks for the info and congratulations and keep it up. Matt |

Title: Re: Gotta Crow a lil bit Post by Margi on Jul 21st, 2006, 1:51pm LOL Jonny - jeez.... 4 packs a day?? Yikes, bud, that's too much!! I just signed on to respond to your post and give you shit a lil bit and when I went to quote you, I found that Scott had quoted you in another thread and this is the first thing I saw in the 10 Most Recent Posts thingy... "Dont forget the nipple clamps hooked up to the car battery" Um yeah...that's a lil bit what the first couple weeks of not smoking were like for me. I'm sure Mast and Mel will agree with me! But...I survived it!! And so, surprisingly, did my husband (it was touch and go there, though, for a few days, poor guy!) LOL |

Title: Re: Gotta Crow a lil bit Post by Charlie on Jul 21st, 2006, 2:18pm Very cool Margi, very. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/victory.gif Seven weeks is about the point where you know you have it licked. Smoking sucks because it's an addiction without a high. It just keeps you hooked and burning holes in your clothes and carpets. It's evil. Keep going Margi. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/sally brown.gif (this one reminds me of Charlie Brown's sister: Sally) Charlie |

Title: Re: Gotta Crow a lil bit Post by Langa on Jul 21st, 2006, 3:11pm Margi, that's great for you...congratulations! I smoked for 10 years and stopping was one of the hardest things I did. That was 10 years ago. My oldest brother - 59 yo is dying of chronic emphysema. He lives on 02, 24/07. It's gotten where I can't even talk to him on the phone anymore - to hear him gasp for every breathe leaves me feeling drained and exhausted every call and wondering how he survives like that :-[. He was a heavy smoker, 4 packs a day for over 40 years. I think he started at age 12 or something. Awful to see it. The doctors showed me an-x-ray of his lungs...I had to ask them where?? They're pretty much shriveled up to nothing...10% capacity they say. I have no idea what that means. My new father in law has emphesyma and still smokes :-/ So what you're doing for yourself I think is wonderful ! Hugs to you! Langa |

Title: Re: Gotta Crow a lil bit Post by Mastifflvr28 on Jul 22nd, 2006, 2:16am WHOO HOOOOO HUGE CONGRATS MARGI!!! Best thing I ever did was quit...but now...how to get the wieght off, lol. Don't let that scare ya though. My most inspirational sites are: http://whyquit.com/ http://www.msnusers.com/FreedomFromTobaccoQuitSmokingNow/myfirstpost1.msnw?action=get_threads&all_topics=1 Really helped me to read up on what exactly the smokes are doing to me...instead of just saying: "Smokes are bad" in my best southpark voice :) And now the docs can't blame any of my ailments on smoking, tee hee. Even Dr. Sewell said that my pain free time had NOTHING to do with my quitting :) Good job Margi! Mast |

Title: Re: Gotta Crow a lil bit Post by kayarr on Jul 22nd, 2006, 7:19am Good job!!!!!! It does get easier. I quit on March 14 2005 and I too still want a cig once in a while. You won't regret the decision:) Kimberly |

Title: Re: Gotta Crow a lil bit Post by ShadowLord on Jul 22nd, 2006, 7:34am Way to go Margi! Good to hear. I remember the last time I quit... A bit of warning from a chronic quitter... Have ya ever had nicotine fits? Well... Soon you'll meet their big brother... Maybe not today... Maybe not tomorrow... Hell, maybe not this year... But it will happen, and it'll feel fairly close to what the first couple of days after you quit did, but alot more craving. Luckily by then, the physical addiction is fairly weak, so it prolly won't make ya sick. You'll just be bouncin' off the walls, and goin' psycho on everyone 'til it passes. Remember... You'll always be addicted to cigarettes no matter how long you quit... You just have to remember that you don't need that cig to get through it though.
