Title: Good thoughts for my Meggie
Post by Redd715 on Jul 18th, 2006, 12:14pm
I just got in from taking Meggie to the ER .  She had a bicycle accident on her way to Summer School this morning.  She cut her toe very very badly, severing the artery and down to the bone, and right in the "V" joint.

I have to head back to the office, but please keep good thoughts for her.  This one is going to take some time to heal.  Lucky Mom had crutches in the store room, as she needs to stay off it for at least a week, and the stiches need to stay in for 12/14 days.  Twice as long as usual.

Thanks Guys,

Love you!

Pegg

This little piggie had roast beef..
This little piggie had none..
And this little piggie cried wee wee wee all the way to the ER, where she got stitches, and then to home, where she gets hugs  [smiley=hug.gif] [smiley=hug.gif] [smiley=hug.gif] [smiley=hug.gif] and kisses  :-* :-* :-* :-* from all of us here.

Oh Meggie you poor thing, thats tough  :-/
Rest it up so it doesn't swell or get infected, keep it up as much as possible, I know its boring hon but the sooner its mended the sooner you can get on with stuff.. if it goes yukky you'll be laid up longer.
Sit here and chat to me all day! LOL
Be good love

No update, Redd?

Ok Update...

The toe is oozing quite a bit more than I would have expected.  Her spirits are high, however a tear or two came when unwrapping it for her bath tonight, as the gauze was sticking pretty bad.

She's tired of the crutches already, and little Miss Grace is hopping one footed around here, (untill she trips).

She's wanting me to try to predict when she can start to walk on her foot again, and my thoughts are that untill the oozing has stopped, she better best stay off it.  Give the inside tissues time to heal up some.

The stitch job was pretty good considering there is some "missing" tissue.  There are some minor rips and cuts too which makes bandaging a challenge.

She is in the bathtub now, as showering one footed would be even more of a risk for injury, so we'll see how it looks tonight again when clean.

She's worried about the musical her summer school drama class is putting on.  They have had to adjust coreography due to her part being a major one and now she can't dance for it as is written.  At least they haven't replaced her in the part.

Thats all for now, and thanks Jonny for asking.  You are a gem!

She's your daughter so we know she is as tough as nails, she'll do fine I'm sure. Thanks for the update Pegg........

I just re-dressed the wound, and there is more "missing" tissue than I first thought.  I guess the swelling made it look different.  I dressed the scraped knee too.  I'm really suprised she didn't do more damage than she did.

Whatever cut her, took some good flesh with it. This is gonna take some time to heal.

Thanks guys.  You know how much my kids mean to me.  Dyl is staying the night at Auston's tonight, so at least I don't have the teenage bickering and assumptions and accusations of (Goddess only knows what) to deal with.  For one night anyway.

You're a fantastic mom Pegg, painful and it's so hard to stay off the feet for healing.  Sounds like her heart is set on performing, hope her the best.  Maybe with a big bunch of Mel's colorful balloons tied to her toe she could be light on her feet.    :)

I remember bicycle accidents when I was a kid, sounds like she had a very bad spill.  Metal or steel cuts can sure slice and bleed like the dickens.

I'll try to get a picture it tomorrow after work if she'll let me.  I'm still unclear as to what the Doc. meant about the "V" joint, but it's not real pretty right now.  Pinky toe and seven outer stiches and (I don't know how many internal disolvable ones for the artery and other tissues)

I feel bad complaining..my managers husband was in for surgery today to get two plates and 4 pins in his foot.  She just HAD to prove her family is more accident prone than mine. [smiley=laugh.gif]

I'm just thankful there was an older couple who picked her and her bike up in their truck and took her to the school.  She never got their names, I'll ask at the school to see if they did, but I want to find a special way to thank them.  If I can't find their names, what can I do?  Any ideas?

If you don't have any luck right away finding them, I'm sure in the short future Meggie will ride her bike the same route, same time again and see them around that spot and will stop to thank them.   (unless they just happened to be driving by)
