I can't find anything about actively exploited vulnerabilities in Firefox on Cert, All I see is a page full of actively exploited vulnerabilities for Microsoft products. (http://www.cert.org/) If you have a link that would be great so we can use the work around until the patch rolls out. Paul |

Title: Re: Skype cracked? ITunes & Firefox ... Post by ShadowLord on Jul 15th, 2006, 11:58pm O... I think he was goin' on the information in this link... http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1979388,00.asp?kc=EWYH104039TX1B0000665 I think the key word may be "unpatched"... Considering that Firefox provides a simple interface to notify users of an upgrade, and intalling the upgrade with minimal inconvenience, it shouldn't be all that much of a problem for most users to upgrade from 1.0.7. Also... Skype 1.4? Isn't the windoze version of Skype at 2.5 now? Who's still runnin' Skype 1.4? And then there's the story linked to originally... OMG! The Skype protocols may have been cracked!!! Next thing ya know, there might be third party software available to connect to the Skype network... Oh the horror! The horror! PFDAN.................................................................. ShadowLord P.S. OMG! I just thought of something even worse about the Skype protocols being hacked... Could this mean a better client may someday be released for the Skype network... Please tell me it isn't possible! SL |

How can you consider software unpatched if an update is released that patches the hole? Firefox being the default browser on most systems is usually kept up to date. Some systems can't upgrade to FF 1.5 so they rolled out the 1.0.8 version to patch 1.0.7. Or are they saying that people still run Operating Systems that don't have popular 3rd party apps included in their system updates? On my system Opera, Skype, Acrobat, and Sun JRE are all part of my system update manager. Google Earth is an exception but that is still beta, and you always run that risk when you run betas. Paul |

Title: Re: Skype cracked? ITunes & Firefox ... Post by ShadowLord on Jul 16th, 2006, 11:30am O... You're forgettin' that winblowz users don't have the convenient update systems that Linux users have (Well... Most Linux users anyways). Even the Windoze Update feature only updates the software that M$ wants updated, and ignores the software that it doesn't like... Like Firefox, Skype, iTunes... Then again, most Linux distros update systems only update the software that is installed from it's repos anyways, so if you manually install third party packages, or compile from source, you will have to update the software manually as well.
