Title: Just wondering Post by imnotbub on Jul 11th, 2006, 4:18pm The company I work (worked) for was taken over a year ago by a bigger company. I went from an RPG programmer/analyst to a support specialist. The thing is, I support systems I know nothing about. they're not even on the same platform. I'm so burried. Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else here. I have noticed a few IT people here and was just wondering. I am so ready to bail, but the job market really blows here. UUUGGGGHHHH. Steve |

Title: Re: Just wondering Post by JeffB on Jul 11th, 2006, 4:57pm Anyway, I was gonna say the job market in Vegas is shitty. If you don't work for a bar/restaurant or hotel do anything you can to stay employed. I lived there for a while and with no gambling found myself so broke I couldn't pay for a glass of air. I say fake it! If you get caught, blame someone else, isn't that how this great nation was born? ;;D And just where did the Mets come from this season, they are on fire! |

Title: Re: Just wondering Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Jul 11th, 2006, 7:42pm I would totally fake it. I mean, try your best, and learn what you can, but they took away your job and replaced it with something you aren't familiar with. If they are so removed they want to pay you for something outside of your expertise, I say milk it!!! B$ |

Title: Re: Just wondering Post by john_d on Jul 11th, 2006, 8:12pm I went through 3 aquisitions and several mergers up to now, and I now work one of the largest defense contractors. I liked it better when I worked for a smaller company but it's hard to tell if it's because it was smaller. Almost every project I do involves a new set of skills, but I actually like that part of it. Keeps my game tight. |

Actually, with all the construction going on the job market is great. If you're a Mexican and you own your own hammer. |
