I used to work a rotating shift. Every 4th week was midnight to 8am west coast USA time.
Middle of the night here but day time on the other side of the planet. There is usually a great group of folks here during those hours. People in Europe, Africa and the folks from down under checking in here as they go through their day-time activities. I always enjoyed the my late night shifts because it gave me a chance to talk to many that we don’t often see during daylight hours in the USA. I no longer work the late hours and want to say Thanks to those that were here at that time of day/night for keeping me company and giving me part of their ‘day’. I’m not going to miss the shift work but I will miss the wonderful people that talked to me in the middle of my ‘night’.
It was also interesting watching this site for so many graveyard shifts as people would sign in and then in just a few minutes sign out. Those sufferers that had a cluster wakeup call that would check in after their attack, I can only guess, looking to be sure they still had a support place to go to. When I would see them come and go quickly I would always get a sad feeling knowing why they were up in the middle of the night.
During those early mornings hours I could also see when people got up for the day. People checking in as they had their first cup of coffee. It would start with the east coast folks about 3am here and 6am there and as the sun rose in the different time zones more people came in and then out and off to work.
And one thing I found funny was I could tell who was stealing company computer time. They would sign on at home with their coffee, be here a few minutes and then sign off. About 45 minutes later they will sign on again, usually about 5 minutes before the hour. That tells me they got to work on time. (Kinda like I was Big Brother watching)

Tell ya what.  A couple of times a week I will give you a wake-up call around 3 am and you can check the board and talk to these people.

I liked it though...not that I could identify with stealing company time and stuff...you know, that's other folks...not me... ::)
